I'm completely sick and tired of my DSL dropping repeatedly at night.

Last night an old arch nemesis reared its ugly head again. Something that hasn't happened in months; my DSL started crapping out every 5 minutes starting at around 8:30 PM.

Not only did it do it last night, but it's doing it tonight as well.

I used to think that this issue was caused by what some people described as a "wireless issue" with the NVG510 modems, and I had heard that by changing it to Wireless B, it fixes these intermittent issues. I'm now convinced that when I did this and thought it worked, it must have only been a huge coincidence, because that hasn't helped the DSL stay connected last night and tonight.

I've completely disabled the wireless functionality altogether and that hasn't helped either.

We've had techs come out at least 3 times regarding this issue back when it happened every night for weeks, and they could never offer any help or insight. And I already know just making this post is going to be a nuisance, waiting for the internet to be back up for just enough time for me to hit Post.

My brother who lives just up the road doesn't have these issues with his service, and the only difference is the modem. He has always used a fairly newer one than us while we've had this black NVG510 ever since we moved here 2 years ago, but every time I bring that up to the tech they say that's probably not the issue.

I just need an answer. I'm extraordinarily angry that nobody can help me.

This is what my log file typically looks like while all of this nonsense is going on:

Since I'm bored and angry, here's a chronology of how this issue has happened (roughly).

A few months ago, this issue happened every single night for over 2 weeks. Maybe over 3. The internet intermittently failed every 5-10 minutes starting at around 6:30 and wouldn't quit until early morning (maybe 3 or 4 AM).

The issue was cleared up (apparently by magic) after I changed the wireless settings to be Wireless B. I say by magic because now, 2 months after the issues had cleared up, starting last night I've had these similar intermittent outages.

Only now (last night and tonight), the outages start at about 8:30 and seem to clear up in a few hours (I'm not sure on that yet, that's just what happened last night. They're still happening now at 9:51 and for all I know they could end at the same time they ended last night or keep going. That's part of the fun is playing "When will my internet stop cutting out for no reason?").

From your description, it sounds as though the issue could be a nearby street light or maybe a security light on your property. I draw that conclusion because the changing time somewhat coincides with the change in the time it gets dark outside. You could inspect your own fixtures and/or peruse the neighborhood to see if there's a malfunctioning street light (flickering or turning off and on).

I am also fed up with my DSL service. I have the same problem, internet disconnects, but has no certain time range. It is extremely frustrating having to restart the router every half hour and lose everything I was working on. I also have issues running two "sources" at the same time. I am not able to have an internet page open while running netflix on the TV. I have tried to contact ATT to cancel service and switch to another provider but that seems to be more of a pain than just dealing with the poor service. The "contact us" page does not work and has broken links. I had to do a google search just to find a phone number to call customer service, just to find out the office is closed at 11AM on a saturday. I am not looking for any solutions, only commenting to let you know you are not the only one. I hope to hear from ATT soon.

Sooo sick of this also. Never in my entire life using Charter Cable have I ever had such problems unless there was something knowingly wrong- which was so rare that it was excusable and tollerated. I married and moved into my husbands home, never imagining the frustration!!! He claims he never has a problem. Well, he rarely goes online, and loves all his 200 uverse sports channels- and he is not one to admit it was a problem unless it seriously affected him. However, my grandson and I are LIVID!!! I just needed to vent. I'll be darned if I will call ATT customer service ever again just to have them insist I do everything I have already done 1000 times already OR tell me to order this and have no resolution to the problem. I just wonder... do all jacks need filters even tho there is just one phone line with a phone attached? I mean... this is an old house, there are jacks that are just hidden behind furniture now. Could the wires outside be loose or not tightly attached causing an outage when the wind blows? I am at my wits end! I seriously just need to without husbands blessing.... shut AT&T off and welcome Charter! He can keep his stupid sports channels that Charter doesn't offer. I don't care a lick about HD television, give me an old tv with rabbit ears, but by God please let me have internet service when I need it!
