25¢ a Minute Plan + GPS

For the 25¢ a Minute Plan, how does it go about charging me when I use my GPS for a few minutes? I know the rate is 1¢ per 5 KB but does it charge me that way? Or is it different?

Hello @Gurren_Lagann,

This is a great question. I know I love having all the important information before making a decision. I would be glad to help you with rates on our prepaid plans!

You are correct regarding the rates. On the 25¢ a Minute Plan, it is billed at pay-per-use. Data packages are currently not available with this plan.

Contrary to popular belief, GPS does not use data. It is a built in feature of the phone and communicates with satellites rather than with cell towers so you won’t be charged for usage. However, when you use navigation apps – data is required in order to load and render the map/bird eye view. This means you can download offline maps and still navigate without a data connection!

I hope this clears up your concerns!

GPS does NOT require data to determine where you are, BUT people don't want longitude and latitude of where they are, they want driving directions and (for most apps) and maps that do require data (some map stuff you can predownload).

If you're not online and want to re-route, that's an issue, and I have no idea how much data is used for traffic information...

Wow! I did not know that! So, I can download offline Google Maps and navigate without using any of my data. That's amazing!
