WiFi originally set for small range, now need larger range
When my U-verse was installed, the installer asked me how big did I want the wifi range to extend. I have a small house so I said small, so it won't be in all my neighbors homes. He set it and told me the range could be enlarged at a later date. Now I want to go out to my garden with wifi, but the signal strength is weak. I need to go another 180 feet with wifi to reach my garden. Where are the settings to extend the range from small to large?
Thanks

@moose_goose - You might try setting channel to 1, 6, or 11 to see if that helps.
An extender - https://www.att.com/equipment/accessory-details/index.jsp?q_categoryid=cat2020046&q_sku=sku7330424&q_manufacturer=&q_model=
works for me May not reach your garden.

@moose_goose Most likely the answer is not in that article. You need to raise the power level up to 100% on the wireless page here: http://192.168.1.254/
Then will need the system password on the RG sticker to make the change effective. Think this is how the tech limited it to small coverage, lowering the power level.
You should be using WPA2-PSK(AES) wi-fi security (same wireless page) and if so, no one can get in now no matter what neighbors see it. Make note of the default wireless password to use.
Good luck 😉
Chris

Thanks for your time. I found the System Password and looked on the page you mentioned. on the Wireless page under the LAN tab, there is a Power Setting under the Advanced Settings section at the bottom of the page. It is set at 400 mW, which is the default. is that what you're talking about?

@moose_goose Is that the highest it will go? If so, generally changing channels might get longer coverage, but no guarantees. I figured the tech had lowered it and could be moved up, but alas no.

Do you have a recommendation for a wifi extender brand?

I changed to channel 11, and there's no imprivement in wifi distance. But, my internet speed inside my house increased noticeably. From here I'll get one of the options you suggested, to extend my wifi.
Thanks again for your help.
