Where is the Hallmark Channel?

I am new to At&t U verus. I was told when I signed up the Hallmark Channel was available.  It took me a week to finally realize you don't have it. Very misleading.

I find myself siding more with the some of the Hallmark complainers than some (but not all) of the anti-Hallmark regulars here.  Why?  Mainly for my wife.  She is disabled and spends most of her time at home (it just kills her, from someone who used to be so independent).  HM was one of her fave channels, especially in the Fall and Winter.  AND then it also kills me to read some of the nonsense on here.  "AT&T refused to pay the exorbitant rates to carry the channel."  Really?  REALLY?  You were at the Crown/AT&T negotiating table?  I wasn't, so what I am thinking is merely a guess.  A lot of what is put out here is something force-fed from an AT&T press release.   I have heard (again, I really do not know) it had to do with retransmission rights (VoD) more than the rate.  My gut is that one party insulted the other.

 

Look, even if it were a huge amount, there is wiggle room and ways to make it work.  Crown could have offered (or AT&T asked) for 4 or 8 minutes of commercial time per hour on the channels to run their ads.  As I have said, where there is a will, there is a way.  I do not see this issue going away and it may pick up steam as they have a decent show (apparently) plus the Holidays are coming up.

It is apparent ATT is not to concerned with pleasing their customers. So, it is time to think about returning to Dish. I should never have left. I would not have if I knew Hallmark was going to be dropped. Which happened between the ordering and the installing.

Are you a Hallmark employee? Most likely you are not even a U-Verse subscriber. Which service do you actually subscribe to. Show us that you are not a One and Done One Post Wonder, and reply to  skeeterintexas about why it took you over three years to decide to leave U-Verse.

I don't know about you but I just can't get enough of them (a totally sarcastic statement). How do those channels fit into the AT&T logic of popularity?

Typically shopping channels are provided free or they even pay AT&T to be broadcasted on thier service. So they actually help out with the overall picture and keep everyone's bill lower.

Typically shopping channels are provided free or they even pay AT&T to be broadcasted on thier service. So they actually help out with the overall picture and keep everyone's bill lower.

Having been silent on this topic all this time, I think if Hallmark wants to pay say .10 per subscriber with over 5 million subs, total cost to Hallmark $500,000+ per month. Maybe Hallmark would prefer to save some money and only pay to be available for u300, u450 subscribers, estimated cost $200,000 per month.

What say U Crown Media, want to help out all these folks and save them the hassle of looking for another provider.

Having been silent on this topic all this time, I think if Hallmark wants to pay say .10 per subscriber with over 5 million subs, total cost to Hallmark $500,000+ per month. Maybe Hallmark would prefer to save some money and only pay to be available for u300, u450 subscribers, estimated cost $200,000 per month.

What say U Crown Media, want to help out all these folks and save them the hassle of looking for another provider.

As the Hallmark channel seems to be the hottest topic about leaving, I don't think it's going to stop these threads.  Someone will find another one to complain about!!Smiley Mad

Good call my thoughts (but think you have it backwards, AFAIK, AT&T pays Crown/Hallmark, not viceversa).   I have a feeling that Crown will beg that the channels are family type and belong on as low a tier as possible.  Of course they all want that.  What I would propose, is for an agreement to let AT&T have half the ad space on the channels and do some ad revenue sharing.  Maybe Crown still gets it's full $500,000 but AT&T is given $100K-200K worth of free advertising per month.

 

I doubt that any of us were at the negotiating table.  BUT, back in Fall 2012, I spoke with a CSR who stated that he was told that AT&T is refusing to negotiate with Crown.  So, ya never know.

I honestly doubt it, Beebee.  I have heard lots about NHL network from forum regulars (who are mostly male) but I'm just not seeing the numbers of new-to-the-forum posters about NHL.  They seem more apt to post about Hallmark.  Al-Jazeera seems to be hot too, but IMHO, Hallmark is the "winner."  As I tounge-in-cheeked, in another tgread, these forums will die if the channels return.  Smiley Very Happy  And, in all seriousness, I said if and not when. Dhascall, thank you for the correct understanding, my post was in reference concerning the addition of shopping channels alluded to while Hallmark remained absence. I do not believe ATT management would reject an offer if Hallmark was willing to do a shopping channel agreement in order to keep their many fans happy. But again that is just my thoughts...

Ordinarily, I would agree.  Who wants to turn down possible business, right?  That being said, there is a reason that they have been off for three years.  Someone obviously got insulted.  There have been some players missing from Dish simply because the Dish CEO turned them off (pun not intended).  This one has been an icy relationship, for too long.  It may never thaw.  I'm not sure if Crown said that it will be a cold day in Hades or AT&T. Smiley Wink

Finally some meaningful posts on the subject.  At least some of you are making, what seem to be, good suggestions.  I realize that this is just a forum, and that no action, in accordance, will be taken by either of the involved parties.   
 
However, if there are no negotiations between AT&T and Crown to end this stalemate, each is allowing its stubbornness to take over.  I've said this before, and I will say it again ... the two principles remind me of our current Government in Washington: Regardless of the isle, on which they sit, their unwillingness to reach a compromise hurts everyone, including themselves, in the long run.
Finally some meaningful posts on the subject.  At least some of you are making, what seem to be, good suggestions.  I realize that this is just a forum, and that no action, in accordance, will be taken by either of the involved parties.

That is a shame.  I guess with the plethora of channels, I missed looking for this channel.  My wife will probably ask me to change to Charter and that won't make my Uverse installer happy.  He spent 10 hours installing uverse everything yesterday.  She watches Hallmark more than every other channel put together.  Funny, I found this thread searching for a way to exclude channels I'm not subscribed too.  Dish and DirectTv have this feature which is awesome.

That is a shame.  I guess with the plethora of channels, I missed looking for this channel.  My wife will probably ask me to change to Charter and that won't make my Uverse installer happy.  He spent 10 hours installing uverse everything yesterday.  She watches Hallmark more than every other channel put together.  Funny, I found this thread searching for a way to exclude channels I'm not subscribed too.  Dish and DirectTv have this feature which is awesome.

Wmtheel, my son, a bass player, singer, has been in and out of bands since in was 14. The only thing that I have noticed is that like a dysfunctional family, the band is only together as long as everyones needs are meet. Those needs are not not the same for each member. When not, the band dissolves, and the members move on. We witness this everyday in other relationships, regardless of what others may think the parties involved do what they think is right.

ATT Uverse is the fastest growing provider of tv services. While the top 9 cable companies has continually lost subscribers over the past few years (total market share now about 55%). Satellite companies either lossing or holding steady (about 30%).
Growth is from the two telco (Version and ATT) with total about 10%. Both started offering service in 2006, Verizon about 4 months earlier. These two continually post new subscribers per quarter with ATT just surpassing Verizon in total.

Someone posted a few weeks back about Hallmark advertising.  A forum regular questioned if that poster had actually heard anything about Hallmark.  Well sports fans, in the past two weeks, I have seen Hallmark mentioned (outside of this forum) in at least half a dozen places and as often or more often than some bigger networks.  I saw a Hallmark ad on another cable channel, A&E, IIRC.  I heard a radio ad on a local Lite Rock station.  There was a notice about an upcoming movie in one of the wife's "Gold Crown" mailings.  I saw a print ad, in a magazine and one in the Indy Star.  Today, also in the Indy Star, in the USA Today Life section, there was a sidebar write-up on an upcoming Hallmark Movie Channel movie.  For this being such a poor, low rated, nothing-of-a-channel, there seems to be lots going on, about it.  Now, that doesn't mean that they will come back, but I'm just sayin.'

Came looking for a solution...not many provided.

Same problem as most... Holidays are coming and wife misses her Hallmark. When I first signed up with U-Verse we had the programming, didn't know it was gone until the holidays rolled around.

I've posted my opinion to the U-Verse Survey, as well as the Hallmark Website Survey.

Question, does anyone know what programming is streamed from the Hallmark website? I pay for my college student to have "cable" and I know she has Hallmark. Before I get her log in info, thought I'd ask.

Next option appears to be a $20 basic cable line into the house, where not only will I be able to get my wife the Hallmark channel, but also all our local "second" channels (I've missed a couple football games this season) as well as eliminate the 4 stream problem that shows up when all the kids come home.... I really like my U-verse (phone has always worked great, and I finally have the internet speed I've been paying for) but there are some "gnats" associated with it that really are irritating.

I have the same problem. I know for a factg I saw Hallmark on the channel lineup when the guy sold me my plan. Had I realized they did not have it I would not have made the switch. If they do not get Hallmark back before my contract is up I will be canceling my service. I am going to miss all my favorite Christmas movies this year.

I seriously doubt that, Hallmark has been gone since Sept. 2010 and NONE of the channel lineups have the Hallmark channel. So unless you've been a UVerse subscriber since before 2010 you haven't had the Hallmark channel. If you have and you are just now missing it, it goes to show why AT&T is in no rush to add the channel.

Yup, most of the "solutions" on here are that AT&T U-Verse has not had contractural rights to carry the channel for about 3 years.  I am hoping for a resolution to this but as I have stated before, one side must have really upset the other.

 

I also like the fact that cable TV provides access to the DTV subchannels, another odd thing missing from U-Verse.

 

As far as Hallmark streaming, I do not know.  Someone said that they would not stream to U-Verse internet accounts since they had not reached a TV contract but I'm not sure about that (CBS recently got in legal trouble because they blocked IP addresses from a cable provider that they were fighting with).

Um... does a successful, got-all-the-attention-they-want, service really have to advertise at such a rate?  Really?

During this time of the year is when they normally have the most viewers. 6-8 weeks out of year, suspect they charge more to advertisers claiming increased exposure due to larger base (think along lines of Super Bowl ads). What happens if people do not turn on and tune in, Advertising next year will be harder, have to reduce their charges, hurt the bottom line.

So like an other business you have to tell people your OPEN for business, what you have TO OFFER, and ASK for their patronage at this time or you may not be around next time.

Imagine if Sears,Walmart, your local grocer, discount store, liquor store....if nobody advertised. How many would be in business? How much less junk mail? How no needing to skip thru commercials? The list goes on.
During this time of the year is when they normally have the most viewers. 6-8 weeks out of year, suspect they charge more to advertisers claiming increased exposure due to larger base (think along lines of Super Bowl ads). What happens if people do not turn on and tune in, Advertising next year will be harder, have to reduce their charges, hurt the bottom line.

All these people that supposedly get shown channel lineups with H*llm*rk on them (that Fox Mulder keeps saying aren't happening)... do these lineups also say Fox Soccer Channel is in the U-300 package?

Keep in mind that Fox Soccer Channel moved down to U-200, became Fox Soccer AND converted to Fox Sports 1 in three different steps over the past 3-4 years.

And why would they even switch to AT&T upon seeing these lineups? They would be looking at lineups that include Urge Music AND a lack of ESPNEWS and ESPNU in HD.

Do you have the numbers to back that up?  That may have been true at one point.  They now have a hit show (depending on what you call a hit) that apparently won its time slot.  So, "Holiday Season" may be an important part of their schedule but it sounds like they are trying to be a player all year.  I do not see a channel advertising / marketing themselves as a sign of weakness.  ESPN runs ads EVERYWHERE!  Why would they do that when they are getting almost $6/sub per month?  I really think that HM may be on the upswing and AT&T could be the one being passed by.  Just keeping it real.

 

The TV Guide Network is another network not on U-Verse and CBS is now morphing that into a full blown channel (I see a rename, coming).  Can you say " Big Brother After Dark?"  This the first year that I missed BBAD.  Thanks AT&T. Smiley Wink
