Wireless A C

With the current wireless we are maxed out. Will there be a router with the new AC wireless that will get wireless at a higher speed?  Not sure if there are current wireless adapters for laptops or if they are being producted, but before I buy a new lap top, would love to know about this.  Happy with my GigaPower so far, and still working out some kinks with my hardware.

I'd have to agree with my thoughts on this.  If your wireless performance is important to you, I'd suggest you acquire your own Wireless Access Point or Router.

I picked up a ASUS RT-AC68U from Fry's and am tickled pink with it.  It's great for performance, and the other features are great.  See the other posts about how to put the 589 into passthrough mode.

Hello, timjtierney!

Thanks for posting. I can definitely find out for sure from our U-verse specialists. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hi @timjtierney

Right now, at this time we don't have any Gateways that support the Wireless 802.11AC capability. Your current router (NVG589) as you know has the Wireless 802.11N capability but, I would have to agree with 'My Thoughts' as well that it may not be available for a while as devices with the 802.11AC specification are estimated to become more and more common by 2015. 🙂

Thank you for your replies.  My last contact with AT&T is that someone will contact me to discuss my issues.  Looking forward  this happenening this week from Corporate.   Sometime this week. 1) billing , 2) Speed even while plugged directly in, and 3) wireless sped with an 80211.N, and an ASUSW router that maxes out at 450.

I look forward to hearing from the office. Thank you all.  If you are interested on the results let me know.  I think this issue might be in my area, Old West Austin/Clarksville, since people in Cedar Park are getting maximum speeds .  Would love it if you are in my area to come over with your laptop, plug in and wireless and see if we get thee same speeds.  Thanks!

I have the new gigapower home gateway that has the higher speed.  I regularly get 50-70 Mb/s

There's a U-verse wireless AC gateway coming soon that'll support 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 1300 Mbps on 5 GHz.

I spoke to Gigapower tech support a couple of weeks ago about the new 599 boc with wireless AC.  I am tyring to decide if I should spend the money on an AC router or not.  They said that new boxes come out about once per quarter and to call back in a couple of months to see if the new 599 box might be available.

2015? That seems a bit late to the party, as the iPhone 6 is expected to have AC this year, the Galaxy S5 is confirmed to have it, the HTC One (M8) has it, Macbook Air supports it, and the list goes on of big ticket items that will utilize the AC specs in 2014. I would hope that if AT&T offers this superfast internet (which I just had installed this week and love so far) they would realize that all of these devices won't be able to utilize the full extent of the speed wirelessly and strive to correct that quickly (at least by the end of summer or beginning of fall, once all of these devices were released).
