Netgear LB2120 and AT&T Prepaid SIM Kit to use as a fixed home 4G LTE internet connection

Hello,

I would like to know if the Netgear LTE Wireless Modem model LB2120 and a AT&T Prepaid SIM Kit will work together to create an AT&T 4G LTE internet connection for my home. I currently have had DSL for 7+ years and it is slow........

I keep calling ATT about Uverse and Fiber for the last seven years but it is continuously not available in my area.

I have filled out the online request to let me know when it is available but never get feedback on any kind of timeline.

So the 4G LTE modem seems to be my only option to increase speed. There is an ATT: Item SKU: 6145B(AT&T Wireless Internet Paramount Black) 4G modem but it is limited to a single hardwire Ethernet connection and will not allow connection to a switch to allow for more hardwired devices.

The Netgear LTE Modem model LB2120 allows connection to a switch and router to expand hardwire connections.

I would also like to know what data plans are available for this modem / SIM card combination.

Thanks,

NETNUT

Hello @Netnut,

The Netgear LB2120 4G LTE Modem is an AT&T Network-Ready device. It does not come with a Micro SIM card, but we do have them available in our Online Store. Before ordering a SIM card, simply enter the device's IMEI number to ensure that you have chosen the correct SIM card. This device is compatible with 3G/4G LTE Mobile Service. You can check out all of our Data plans for tablets and other mobile devices here. DataConnect is a great monthly plan if you only need up to 5GB of data. AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet provides qualified households and small businesses with high-speed Internet service via an outdoor antenna and indoor Wi-Fi Gateway router. To find out if you qualify, please click on the orange “Check Availability” button at the link that we've provided for you and enter your address. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

@ATTHelp hello! I have recently purchased the Netgear LB1120 4g LTE modem, as well as an AT&T prepaid SIM card. Is there any way to get unlimited data for this device? It seems like I could get unlimited with this SIM card for a phone, but for the Netgear modem, it looks like $70 per month for only 15GB which isn’t much. Any help would be appreciated!

@Morgiejojo   No.
There is no unlimited data plan available for Dedicated mobile hotspots.

Hello @Netnut,

It’s great to see that you’re looking to upgrade to better speeds for your service.

Getting our LB2120 along with a prepaid SIM will allow you to make a 4G LTE connection, and you can find out more information about the specifications here.

Our prepaid plans vary with how much you would like to pay monthly.

Let us know if this helps!

Hello Mihai, AT&T Community Specialist,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the link you provided was not for the Netgear LB2120, it was for the LB1120.
Was this an error or did you want to direct me to the LB1120?
Both modems on the Netgear site say they are "AT&T Network-Ready device".
Is this correct?

A few other questions.

You mention the SIM and prepaid plans. I went to your SIM listing but could not figure out which SIM would work for the LB2120.
On Netgear's site it says it requires a "microSIM" but all of the SIMs listed on ATT site say for phone or tablet? Which one should I select?

Concerning the prepaid plans they look expensive. If I were to get the 8GB plan it would cost $50/month.
Should I be looking at the "DataConnect" plan for personal hot spot device?

https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1048698

The cost for 50GB plan for $60/Month?
I do NOT plan to make this mobile. It is for home only.

I have tried to talk with a local ATT store about this "Fixed home 4G LTE wireless internet" service but they don't seem to know much about it.
Can you help?

Thank you for the reply Sean,

The best plan for me would have been Fixed Wireless" but I received this message back when I check for availability:
"Sorry, but Fixed Wireless Internet isn't currently available at your address".
There are AT&T cell towers around my house so why am I denied service. I don't understand.
Fixed Wireless is 4G LTE radio service, yes?
Now I have struck out on Fiber, Uverse and Fixed Wireless connections to AT&T.

What's next if anything?

Hey there @Netnut,

That's a great question. AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet is only available in select (typically rural) areas. Since your home address is surrounded by AT&T cell towers, it is not likely that this service would be available in your area. As previously stated, one of the data plans that we have to offer for tablets and other mobile devices would be the best option to get 3G/4G LTE Mobile Service for your Netgear LB2120 LTE Modem. We'll be here to assist you if you still have questions or concerns.

Sean,
I have looked a number of times at the data plans an I am not sure which one applies. Can you tell me which plan would provide 50GB for $40 to $60?
And what would be my min and max speed for that plan?

Hi @Netnut

Our $60 fixed wireless plan provides speeds of up to 10Mbps download/1Mbps upload. If you sign up and begin service prior to 9/30/18, you would get 340 GB per month (after that, it would be 170 GB per month). You can check availability in your area here.

Darais,
Fixed home internet is not avalable in my area, nor is fiber or Uverse. Not sure why, thought that at least 4G LTE would be available?

Hi, @Netnut,

You can check and see if 4G is available in your area using our Domestic Wireless Data Coverage map. Just check Data and 4G LTE and enter in your address.

Please let us know if we can assist with anything else.

Well James using zip code 60172 I see a solid map of dark orange (4G LTE) so why does the AT&T site say fixed home 4G LTE is not available in my area?
