How to uninstall (or disable) AT&T Address Book App ?
Since the AT&T address book app is retired, how to do I get it off my phone ? The service is still running in the background. I can force stop it but it comes back after a reboot. The AT&T Address Book account is still listed under Accounts as well.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 on marshmallow.
Thanks

Hey there @Vinnny,
Thank you for reaching out to us! The AT&T Address Book will be phased out by May 30, 2017 to streamline its operations. I can understand the want to remove it from your device. It would be my pleasure to share instructions on how to do so!
Before removing the Address Book, I would recommend exporting your contacts prior to deactivating. This can be completed via addressbook.att.net. After completing this, you will need to stop the device from syncing by changing the sync setting to on-demand. Our Device Support page has instructions on how to complete this.
Some provisioning will also need to be changed to complete the removal of Address Book from your account. I can complete this for you! In order to do so, I will be sending you a private message to your Forum’s Inbox. Please be on the lookout for this message!
I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you, and have a great rest of your day!

Hello, How do I disable this ATT Address Book app on my phone? It starts up and tries to set up every time I try to just use my google contacts app. I'm on Tracfone now if that matters. The phone was working fine on Tracfone with ATT towers, even with the Marshmallow update it was fine until the last few weeks. I can't find anything in any of the settings to disable this app. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hello @himayjohnson,
I completely understand wanting to disable to AT&T Address Book application. Since its shutdown, it can seem like an extra unneeded feature. I will be more than happy to help!
Some devices have AT&T Address Book preloaded and cannot remove the application from the device. In this case we would still be able to disable it by pressing and holding on the application while viewing all your apps. Once this is done, you can drag it to the Disable icon.
If this method gives you any trouble, you can go into the Application Manager settings. You can do this by going to Settings > Apps > Application Manager > AT&T Address Book > Disable.
I hope you find this information helpful!

Thanks for the speedy response. The problem is I have already tried those steps, and I can not disable the app because the disable button is greyed out. The annoying thing is that I was using the in built Contacts with my google contacts and it was fine for a year or so, even after the Marshmallow update. Just recently I am getting the ATT Address Book nag screen every time I try to open the Google Contacts app. And I can't update to the latest Contacts app for some reason. The Play store says my device is not eligible. Perhaps since this service is closing down they might remove it from the roms for this phone at some point? That is, if there's ever another update...

Hi there @himayjohnson,
Thank you for trying the options to disable the AT&T Address Book app. I am sorry to hear they were unable to help with the message you continually receive.
If we head to Settings > Accounts, are you able to view an AT&T Address Book account there and remove it? If this is the case, we can attempt to disable the application after removing the account from the device.
If the above steps are still unable to help resolve the AT&T Address Book prompts, we may want to look into backing up your information and preforming a factory reset. This will clear out any software issues preventing us from disabling the application. Our Device Support Page has some excellent guides to help you backup your device and preform the reset.
To check out the backup options for your device, select Tutorials > Backup and Reset. For information on preforming the factory reset, you can head to Tutorials > Troubleshooting > Reset.
Let me know if these steps help!
