There are times I would just like to send a text message to someone's cell phone straight from my computer.  Can I do that?

You need to know the recipient phone's carrier.

If you were texting AT&T phones:

SMS / Text - 10digitphonenumber@txt.att.net

MMS (picture/video msg) - 10digitphonenumber@mms.att.net

Wilcre had a post about the many other carriers' email addresses.

Another way (the way I usually do it)...

I add cell phone numbers into my AIM buddy list and then just IM my friends' phones from AIM Express. This way you can keep a threaded conversation going without bothering with email, which oftentimes truncates messages.

Yep. That's the one. I figure you'd answer this if I wrote your name 😉
