Wireless Emergency Alerts HTC One M8

Wireless Emergency Alerts HTC One M8

Last night I was awoken at 2:30 am to an Amber alert, and have been trying to adjust Emergency Alert settings ever since.  It seems the options should either be in my Messaging App (they're not) or an Emergency Alerts app, which I don't have.  They're also not in the most obvious place, Notifications Settings.  Any suggestions?

Re: Wireless Emergency Alerts HTC One M8

Hello @BRoberts0107!

I do apologize that you were awoken at 2:30 AM! I totally understand not wanting to be awoken so early, especially when you are like me and have trouble getting back to sleep! Let’s see what we can do about that!

For this specific device, it does look like Emergency alerts will be adjusted through the Emergency Alerts app. If you don’t see this in your app drawer, it may be hidden. You can access this through Apps > Menu > Hide/unhide apps. I would look for Emergency alerts from this list, and uncheck it to avoid it from being hidden.

You can then adjust your alerts! You are able to turn off all of the alerts except presidential alerts.

Let us know if you have any other questions! Have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the answer, but I don't have the app. None of my apps are hidden, and it's not there.

Re: Wireless Emergency Alerts HTC One M8

Hello @BRoberts0107!

Thank you for the update! I do apologize!

Let’s try this. Check out our Device Support Center. After selecting your make and model, choose Tutorials > Email & messaging > Messaging settings. If you select step 3, you should see all of the settings listed. Cell broadcast should be listed at the very bottom. Try turning it off this way!

Just let us know! Have a wonderful day!

Re: Wireless Emergency Alerts HTC One M8

Thanks for trying, but that's not it.  Cell broadcast is already off, and we've had bad weather here this evening, so I can confirm that I'm getting the notifications as well as the loud alerts.

Re: Wireless Emergency Alerts HTC One M8

Try this: To disable emergency alerts in stock Android, head to Settings, click on the More option under the Wireless & Networks section, and scroll down to the Cell Broadcasts settings. Once opened, you will be given the option to disable extreme threats, severe threats, and Amber Alerts. Android can be tricky, however, because each device is different. If you can't find the emergency alert option in your phone's settings, open the Messaging application and look for the option in the messaging settings.

Re: Wireless Emergency Alerts HTC One M8

Nope.  Not there either.  Under "More" I have "Data Manager", "NFC" with an on/off button; "Mobile network sharing", "HTC Mini+", and "VPN".

I've really feel like I've looked everywhere.  I've adjusted these settings in the past, so it must be a recent-ish update that moved them somewhere obscure.  (Or, I don't have the app I should, and there's no way to install it?)

Thanks anyway.

Re: Wireless Emergency Alerts HTC One M8

Hello @BRoberts0107!

I am so sorry! I know that has to be frustrating. Yes, I have checked our version of AT&T HTC One devices, and it does look like it should have the application.

Take a look at this third party site to see what the application is supposed to look like. Since you don’t have it, I recommend checking to see if you are able to download it from your app store.

If not, you can always try a backup and reset! It may have been disabled or deleted somehow. Check out our Device Support Center for instructions! Backup methods can be found in Tutorials > Backup & restore. Reset steps can be accessed through Tutorials > Troubleshooting > Reset device.

Just let us know! Have a wonderful day!

Final update: I got the time to do a backup and reset, and the Emergency Alerts app appeared!  All fixed.  Thanks for all the suggestions.
