Will Verizon's new UNLIMITED plans push for more unlimited plans from AT+T?
Hopefully this will open up more options for AT&T...
Here's the highlights of Verizon's new unlimited plan:
- $80 for unlimited data, talk and text on your smartphone.
- $45 per line for four lines with unlimited data, talk and text on your smartphones and tablets.
- Mobile Hotspot with 10 GB of 4G LTE data is included at no charge (after 10 GB you'll get 3G data speeds). Not sure if that's per line or shared 10GB.
- 500 MB/day of 4G LTE roaming in Mexico and Canada - included.
- Get TravelPass for $10 per day (500 MB/day limit; 2G speeds after that) while overseas.
FYI, I noticed tablets are listed on the multiple device option while they aren't on the single line option.
While it looks and sounds very appealing, it'd still costs at least $35-ish more than my current 3 line 20GB plan, which is basically all we really need (basically 3 of us split 10GB for the phones and I pay for an extra 10GB for my tethering). Still find it appealing though....
Updates:
This is INTRODUCTORY pricing, who knows exactly what that means.
On the Verizon forums I saw it's not going to have FAN-type discounts (other than military).
- Rember the Golden Rule: Treat others how you would like to be treated.

Ive been hearing crickets for about a year.
Many unanswered issues. This is just the most obvious.
Will the powers that be realize this is only the straw that broke the camels back? Or more crickets?

@lizdance40 Let's hope reality has finally set in now that Verizon is in the unlimited game now and the price wars will continue... AT&T badly needs to step up their game since their argument was always a stronger/superior network than T-Mobile/Sprint... with Verizon in the mix, AT&T can't afford to not play the game now unless they want watch their subscriber numbers to continue to flee for more aggressive deals and better pricing.

Even if ATT matches the Verizon offer, it will not stop the exodus. ATT customers are disgruntled, and not just about data plans. Customer service needs a lot of work, promotions have been botched....on and on....

as @lizdance40 pointed out ATT needs more work than that. Losing 1.5 customers in one year may not seem like a ton but my guess is its ramping up. Verizon did not bring back unlimited data because they wanted to. They HAD to. ATT better respond today or tommorrow as any time later there going to see more and more defections. Verizon does have the better network and thats painful to say. No enhanced LTE services on non att devices is a joke also. No wifi calling on prepaid is also since the other 3 carriers offer it now.

I see the appeal of the unlimited fever, but it would cost me more than my $145 3 line 20GB ($100+ 3*$15) plan as I would lose my discount. I don't think my habits would change much at all, as I gave up unlimited a year ago and it didn't really change my habits (or data use all that much). I think I told apps to stop updating over cellular (maybe podcasts too) and haven't changed a thing.
10GB of the 20GB is extra I buy specifically for tethering for myself. So it would probably save me a couple of dollars but cost my other users more, which if I lost them would cost me more...
I really really like my AT&T coverage. I'd be bummed if Verizon didn't have coverage in my few spots up north and where coverage is sketchy on the Detroit/Canada border. I'd rather they do something to my plan to save me another $10 a month and I'd be happy...

here this is something to look at. I never said att's coverage is bad. But for me with verizons unlimited data costing me only 7 bucks more a month I have to do some thinking since I have 4 teens in the house. The pic below shows att losing 800k subs and the only carrier losing. Now the 1.5 mil number I use does not include cricket only att. The number used in the pic includes cricket.

@Gary L I defintely like my AT&T coverage as well... actually AT&T is better than Verizon where I live (T-Mobile and Sprint are non-factors where I live since their coverage is absymal in my area). I would much rather stick with ATT and see if they come out with something competitive than give into the latest trend... but ATT better do something quick.

Not saying you said it was bad...??
As long as they stay in business and don't start closing towers where I use them, those numbers aren't anything I worry about.
