Will AT&T adopt Google's universal RCS messaging?
So far just a few carriers have signed on to Google's universal standard for RCS messaging. T-Mobile has recently allowed their customers to use RCS features in the Google Messenger app but the features are restricted to only people on the same carrier. So they haven't adopted the universal standard but have adopted RCS features. AT&T has done neither. We have RCS, yes, but the RCS features are only supported by a few devices, not even that many devices are currently supported. RCS would enable users to take advantage of iMessage like features but on Android. It is a shame that RCS has been around for a while but has made no progress. Google is pushing for a universal standard that would allow Android users from every carrier to message each other in a similar way to iMessage. AT&T claims that they have RCS but it doesn't even do much and I even have one of their "supported devices" but have never even gotten the chance to use it because so few devices are supported. It would be nice if AT&T would implement the RCS features on Google's Messenger app so that we could at least take advantage of that and devices wouldn't necessarily have to be supported just as long as you are using Google's app. Secondly it would be nice if AT&T adopted the universal standard so we could use the features across the board and message our contacts from different carriers in an iMessage way.

Hello @YaBoyDK,
I absolutely understand your desire for wanting this feature! I would be glad to provide some insight.
Advancing our services with Rich Communication Services is definitely a great idea and we are all on board for it! We are planning on expanding this feature as soon as possible and have acknowledged the high demand for it, I assure you.
We are currently adopting RCS with useful features such as Wi-Fi calling, NumberSync, and many more. Those are just a few of the features we’ve released recently and like any new feature, we plan on making them even better. At this time, no information has been announced regarding AT&T’s ability to support RCS with Google Messenger. As soon as any information becomes available, we will inform everyone!
I hope you find this information useful. Have a great weekend.

ATTCares, Thank you for the information and insight. Glad to know that you guys are still working on the features. Hope you will adopt the universal standard so that we may enjoy the versatility and ability to use RCS with our friends and family members on different carriers. Would definitely be such a big bonus!

@GLIMMERMAN76 And yet @tuanskie isn't wrong.... T-mobile continues to be more creative, more inclusive and very daring. Other carriers look like old fuddy duddies.

You mean sprint if your talking about rcs support. There the only carrier that had it adopted it. TMobile has went the att and Verizon route.

It's been about 8 months since this thread started, and I was wondering if there's any update as to a more universal implementation (read:Google Messenger) of RCS on AT&T?
