When is Universal RCS going to be adopted in the US?

When is Universal RCS going to be adopted in the US?

I saw an article where AT&T has adopted universal RCS in Mexico but haven't read anything about the US.

Do we have news on this?

Thanks!

Re: When is Universal RCS going to be adopted in the US?

Hi @KellinaWV,

This is a great question which I am more than happy to assist with! I checked on this for you and found we are currently adopting RCS with useful features such as Wi-Fi calling, NumberSync and some others however there is no information about AT&T Currently adding the ability to support RCS with Google Messenger. When this becomes available AT&T will inform everyone.

Have a great rest of your day!

Re: When is Universal RCS going to be adopted in the US?

Could you kindly inform AT&T to stop making their customers suffer and be on board with the future? Universal RCS is the future of text messaging. Deal with it and adapt. Proprietary implementations of this that only work within the carrier are doing nothing but stunting the growth of said technology. I have no friends or family on AT&T, so your version of "Advanced Messaging" is entirely worthless to me. Be a part of the future or be left behind. T-Mobile coverage has improved in my area the last couple years, and they've already announced they will be implementing the Universal RCS profile in Q2 this year.

I want to add my voice to the list of customers who want AT&T to adopt RCS Universal Profile in the US. I'm a long time AT&T customer and have some loyalty to the company, but if no plans are announced soon, I will be switching to T-Mobile who has announced they will be rolling out RCS Universal Profile second quarter of this year (not to mention seem to have better data plan rates as well). With over 55 carriers adopting this consumer-friendly standard worldwide, I don't understand why AT&T can't even tell its customers when/if it plans to adopt the standard. Like I said, I have some loyalty to AT&T as a long-time customer, but when competitors offer better products, I won't hesitate to switch. I'm thankful there are choices in the marketplace.

Stubborn tech companies always lost the battle in this Tech Era, Example is BlackBerry and Nokia, AT & T has to decide which boat they're going to choose.

 Hi,

This is FatCat, AT&T CEO. Rest be assured that while I'm replying to you all on my clamshell phone from T-Mobile, my wallet swells with every counting day that I continue to milk the SMS/MMS ticket to oblivion. I don't know your concerns about RCS and frankly don't care. What is Google? What is progress? What is the 21st century? These are all existential questions that I have no expertise in answering for you. But I'll leave it to my script regurgitating service reps to handle your concerns. Do continue to pay your inflated phone bill in time. Thanx.

I can't wait to have my phones paid off. I can't handle AT&T being dead last in the tech race.

Re: When is Universal RCS going to be adopted in the US?

So they want to include RCS in their technology because it benefits their bottom line. This is the very service and technology Google introduced. Instead of paying it forward and giving customers the technology as Google proposed it, they are instead customizing it to benefit their bottom line while not implementing it for Google's functionality with Messages.

In other words "Oh, thank you for inventing the automobile but we are going to trim that and only sell it without wheels or a transmission. Instead, we'll add a skid plate underneath so people can pull the vehicle and will require a new skid plate every few days."

You realize google did not create RCS right?  It belongs to the GSMA....  ATT belongs to the GSMA and signed on for universal profile....  BUT the problem is in the US apple commands half the market...  It will be interesting to see what verizon and ATT do after t mobile rolls it out BUT they said q2 and its coming to a close fast.  I dont see t mobile hitting their target.

Re: When is Universal RCS going to be adopted in the US?

Yeah this response makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If AT&T wants to become a high tech company, rolling back FCC regulations won't solve the problem - culture does.

Step 1: Recognize that your power users expect a lot more than uninformed responses

To wit: RCS is a standard. Once AT&T launches support for it, Android Messages will be able to interact with the capability.

The question remains: WHEN will AT&T rollout RCS?

Add me to the long list of people requesting RCS. I'm an Android user and will always be an Android user. Please support open standards and implement RCS.
