VOIP like Skype on data plan

I've been considering a data card and plan for my laptop for use while Im at work. But I need to know if using voip programs like skype or yahoo messenger voice is permited. I asked the store clerk, and they didnt seem sure, but thought it was ok to do so.  I dont want to make the plunge only to find out this is not  permited with the terms of the contract. Anyone have any definate answer to this?
Thanks

VoIP is allowed.  More specifically, it's not prohibited at this time.  Just note that with a Data Connect plan, you're limited to 5GB per month.  So if you talk a lot and you want to surf a lot, you'll want to keep an eye on your usage to make sure you stay under 5GB.  I doubt you'd have a problem with voice only VoIP calls, but a lot of video calls could be an issue.
