Unlimited PLUS starts Thursday with 10GB TETHERING! Unlimited Choice is $30 cheaper. ATT stepped up!

They stepped up and prices look pretty good. More than enough to make many happy I'd think (not all of course).

They're not lower than everyone else, but they're way more competetive than they were.

I personally don't feel they need to be lower they don't need to match everyone else. They are their own company, but it's nice that they're not so far out of touch of the other major providers.

  • Plans come with Roam North America feature.
  • And 10GB of tethering / hotspot! They really should have made it a little more to compete, even 12GB, but it'll do...
  • PLUS $25 discounts for DirecTV! Including DirecTV Now (don't get too excited, it excludes Go Big $35/mo. plan).
  •  Autopay required for that pricing (excludes credit cards).

While it says "Plans may not be eligible for offers, credits, or discounts", which I assume means no FAN discounts, it does say "Qualified Military & Veterans will receive a 15% discount on their monthly service charge" which is $75 (for single line) or off $105 (for multi-line) for the Unlimited PLUS plans.

Re: Unlimited Choice is $30 cheaper but limited

Thanks everyone. I went back to it after a while and everything showed up like it should. We'll see if this is worth keeping!

So hotspot devices and WHPI get the same treatment as a smartphone. 22GB and the speeds may be reprioritized. This is a very huge change in direction and policy from my experience.

Re: Unlimited Choice is $30 cheaper but limited

MyATT started working for me mid-afternoon, I could see all the choices. At 7am this morning, I could get in but the new choices weren't there.

I'm really curious if theey were overwhelmed, or when they rolled out the new config they broke it....

iPhone Hotspot

====================================================================================================

03-03-17 6pm EST EDIT TO BELOW - got this working via AT&T support. They said many were seeing this so suggest calling them.

EDITorial - man the quote mechanism for replies to posts in this forum software blows, hence the above act of desperation

====================================================================================================

Can anyone with an iPhone that switched to the Unlimited Plus plan confirm they can now enable the Hotspot on their iPhone?

Settings > Cellular > Set Up Personal Hotspot

If so what model phone and version iOS please? (ex iPhone 5s 10.2.1)

I have an iPhone 5s running 9.3.3 (intentionally) and get the below when attempting to do this.

Things tried - cold boot

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

I haven't tried updating to iOS 10.2.1 yet, think this *shouldn't* matter and want to hold off on that for the moment for a couple of reasons......

Re: iPhone Hotspot

Wow, I believe this may be the worst forum software I've EVER seen.

It just deleted a (differernt) previous lengthy post from earlier this afternoon. No it wasn't me I know what I'm doing.

Anyway, short version:

I had previous posted here that I could not enable the Hotspot on my iPhone 5s after swtiching to the 'Unlimited Plus' plan.

I called AT&T support and they said many were seeing this.

They asked me to turn off my phone, did some magic on their end and voila now it works.

Connecting your laptop or tablet to your phone (wirelessly) to share it's internet for no extra charge.

It's like having wifi everywhere for those devices.

Re: Comparing UNLIMITED PLUS and current Unlimited plan. Generally Cheaper!

Current mobile share atvantage plan with three phones and 30G before going to throttled 2G when 22G reached. Have HD with Streamsaver.  Includes hotspot tethering for entire 30G.  Cost for new Unlimited Plus plan will be about the same.  It will reduce hotspot tethering to 10G instead of 30G.  What are benefits to changing?

Re: Comparing UNLIMITED PLUS and current Unlimited plan. Generally Cheaper!

Hello Gary,

I found this post from you about AT&T new unlimited plans and feel the need to share my own experience with you and your readers. I've been with att for over 10yrs. Just upgrade to the Unlimited plus plan on my 4 lines. Today I have a conversation for over 1 hr with customer care about the 10GB hotspot and this is where things got interesting.

this is how it goes. They sell the plan stating there is a 10GB hotspot but they never mentioned what exactly does that mean.

I test the plan by turning my cell phone's hotspot and streaming a movie on my laptop. The result was that the data used was added up to my regular data and not from the so call 10GB of the hotspot. After lots of runs around and none sense explanation a manager finally came to explain there is no way for users or AT&T tech support to see what you used as hotspot, so technically all data is basically taken from the 22GB and you are allowed to use 10GB for hotspot. But they are not even sure about that either. in other words there is not 10GB hotspot in the plan, they aparently will just limit you to 10GB out of your 22gb high speed for hotspot and after that it will drop to 128kbs (2G) for the resrt of the billing cycle.

Hope this comment clarifies the "hotspot lie" AT&T is trying to sell you within the new plans.

Hello ,

I found this post about AT&T new unlimited plans and feel the need to share my own experience. I've been with att for over 10yrs. Just upgraded to the Unlimited plus plan on my 4 lines. Today I have a conversation for over 1 hr with customer service rep. about the 10GB hotspot and this is where things got interesting.

This is how it goes. They sell the plan stating there is a 10GB hotspot but they never mentioned what exactly does that mean.

I test the plan by turning my cell phone's hotspot and streaming a movie on my laptop. The result was that the data used was added up to my regular data usage and not from the so call 10GB hotspot. After lots of run around and none sense explanation from tech support and customer rep.  a manager finally came to explain there is no way for users or AT&T tech support to see data usage from a hotspot, so technically all data is basically taken from the 22GB and "they think" that you are allowed to use  only 10GB out of the 22 GB high speed for hotspot, but they are not even sure about that either. In other words, there is not 10GB hotspot in the plan, they apparently will just allow you to used 10GB out of your 22GB high speed for hotspot and after that, hotspot it will drop to 128kbs (2G) for the rest of the billing cycle (useless).

When I upgraded the sales rep.  told me 22GB high speed per device, after that speed may drop. 10GB hotspot (assuming you have 10GB were extra to stream on a hotspot) but it's not even close to that. BE AWARE!

Hope this comment clarifies the "hotspot lie" AT&T is trying to sell you within the new plans

On the other unlimited plans, hotspot is disabled. That's why they are pointing out it has hotspot.

The 10GB of streaming is part of that phones usage.  That's where the data is coming from. It's not an additional 10GB. It's unlimited, there wouldn't need to be another separate 10GB.

Look at it this way, if you had a 6GB plan and you hotspot with it. The hotspot data counts as part of the 6GB plan, it counts as the phone using the data.

so technically all data is basically taken from the 22GB and you are allowed to use 10GB for hotspot.

You make it sound like you don't have an unlimited plan, that you have a 22GB plan, but it's unlimited.

22GB only matters if the towers your line uses are overburdened, if they are, you are temporarily slowed down.

they aparently will just limit you to 10GB out of your 22gb high speed for hotspot and after that it will drop to 128kbs (2G) for the resrt of the billing cycle.

("It" is the hotspot, correct?)  But I let you in a secret, since they can't tell, I don't think they can limit it "yet", so you might be able to go more than 10GB...

Hope this comment clarifies the "hotspot lie" AT&T is trying to sell you within the new plans.

I'm not sure why you think there is a lie. You've got a phone, they are advertising that phone as unlimited and allowing up to 10GB of hotspot, if the phone uses more than 22GB it may be deprioritized.  If you use the hotspot data, you're using data from the phone. Where else would the data come from??

To mix it up some more, if you watched that movie on a tablet via the DirecTV, DTV Now or Uverse app, I believe it would NOT count towards the 22GB deprioritization but would count towards the 10GB hotspot usage.

Today I proved not even customers reps and tech support are clear how this works. I get it, but the way they sell this plans is making you believe you have extra 10GB exclusive for hotspot

I'm not suggesting you ask them!!!  (no proof needed there!)

Read the offer yourself. Everything is going to come down to what is in the writing. If there are asterisks and footnotes to the fine print, read those too!

Everywhere it says "After 22 GB of data usage, AT&T may slow speeds" (7 variations of that on the Unlimited page!) it doesn't say anything about that 10GB not being counted towards that.

The "10GB hotspot" is a bullet, so is "Stream High Def Video" and "Canada/Mexico roaming" but that data use is not separate from the 22GB limit for possibly reprioritization either.
