I’ve had the unlimited plan for a year now and live in a very rural area so have had no slow downs. We also use our hot spots for streaming. We’ve been doing this for a year now, consistently using over 400 gigs of data each month with like I said, no sow downs or throttling of any kind. Then all of a sudden on 6-17 we get a notice that we’re approaching hot spot limit and then bam now all our hot spots basically become useless after 10 gigs. What’s going on here? Is there like a one year limit? The cell service is still going strong so I don’t know why the hot spot is suddenly being throttled. When I look at my usage online it doesn’t even show anything about hot spot caps on any months until this one. I’m adding screenshots of my current month and my last month. Anyone know what’s going on?

@Mrsclark69 How about this,
1. Give customers a plan with 10 gb of data
2. Customers abuse the plan to the tune of 400 gb of data a month
3. Force customers to abide by the 10 gb of data
By your own admission, you used 4,680 gb over what you were allotted (390 x 12). And you are surprised they started to force people to the 10 gb they were given?

Yes it’s my bad for not reading the small print apparently, but this was not how the plan was “sold” to me, so yes that’s shady.
It's not SMALL print, see the images I posted in post #13.
Or how about this:
1. Don’t limit customers hotspot so they don’t realize that they need a dedicated hot spot device.
Most customers I've talked to (in various forums) were afraid to use over 10GB for hotspot, so not a big secret.
2. Remove having a dedicated hotspot device as an option on customers plan.
3. Decide to start limiting customers hotspot so now they have to purchase a separate plan for hot spot service.
They probably realized the dedicated hotspots on unlimited were losing them money. So this was the logical way to do it. The other way would have bumped everyone over to the losing money option (and they would have lost money).

@Mrsclark69 oh and the 15 gb is unlimited choice Enhanced. It's a different unlimited plan but you are free to swap to it. Check the prices first as they may be higher or lower depending on if you have autopay and paperless. Billing set up

I realize a customer service rep can’t change the 10 gig limit (which according to the website should now be 15),
That's a different new plan: Unlimited Plus Enhanced.
Different options and pricing. So be sure to read the plan before switching. https://www.att.com/plans/unlimited-data-plans.html
FYI, there are new unlimited plans on Tuesday, so they'll change again.
I realize a customer service rep can’t change the 10 gig limit (which according to the website should now be 15), but someone better be able to help me out regarding getting a hot spot device added to my plan.
Unlimited hotspot, not likely. But if you get it PLEASE let us know so we can share the info with others. I'm sure this is going to come up more and more the next few weeks.

I was given the same impression when I upgraded my plan. I was told about the 10gig but then told it only gets throttled back in congestion and shown by employee their usage. I actually called in to speak to a rep and she kept giving me the run around and when I had to explain to her what throttling back was and how I'd use 200gig hotspot without fail a month I knew she couldn't help me. Telling me I should have no issues as there are no downed lines. Thank you AT&T you've made it an easier choice to get a different service. Left with no choice as my hotspot was the main reason I got the plan I'll be looking into other venues. Like the services with unlimited 4glte and 10gig hotspot on 4 lines for 100...thats double the hotspot and twice the lines for half the cost...

How is that double the hotspot? You get 10GB hotspot per device now. Just make sure that carrier provides the service you need where you need it. You won’t care how much cheaper it is if your service is poor. You might want to double check for any restrictions on that hotspot usage too.

Im wondering how anyone knows how congested a tower is at any given moment , just because your rural doesnt mean its not congested.as a matter of fact rural towers may get more congestion since its one or 2 towers serving a large area as opposed to a big city with 20 towers within a small area.
