Sudden hot spot throttling

 I’ve had the unlimited plan for a year now and live in a very rural area so have had no slow downs. We also use our hot spots for streaming. We’ve been doing this for a year now, consistently using over 400 gigs of data each month with like I said, no sow downs or throttling of any kind. Then all of a sudden on 6-17 we get a notice that we’re approaching hot spot limit and then bam now all our hot spots basically become useless after 10 gigs. What’s going on here? Is there like a one year limit? The cell service is still going strong so I don’t know why the hot spot is suddenly being throttled. When I look at my usage online it doesn’t even show anything about hot spot caps on any months until this one. I’m adding screenshots of my current month and my last month. Anyone know what’s going on?

Well if it's because they flipped a switch, they need to flip it back!

@Booklady62

You're getting what you paid for.  You were getting more.

They "flipped a switch" to make your account function CORRECTLY.

If you've been using more, then you have been overusing for what you paid for...

Re: Sudden hot spot throttling

I was also told it would only slow down if there was congestion. I kept my Hughesnet for a month to make sure the hotspot would work for me. l would have never dropped them if I had known AT&T was going to do this. I was even sold on the free Roku with DirectNow. Told get Netflix, Hulu, etc. The Roku is now just a useless piece of trash.

Re: Sudden hot spot throttling

It is shady , very shady being as that not how its being played out at the stores and at that time on line . 99% of people take the word of your store reps . When I re-uped my plan to unlimited + it was never mentioned by one person in the store , just how great this unlimited was especially with hot spots . So yes shady even if it's in very fine print on the written contract ONLY  that 100% of the people read . I've been a customer of at&t since they got in the cell phone  business  and I'm seriously considering a different company after all these years!!!! YES VERY VERY SHADY .

Re: Sudden hot spot throttling

@Dennislinsin

Oh for gosh sakes!   The printed information was VERY clear online and the store posters because it was a big deal as ATT had previously not allowed any hotspot use.

And since you mention it, other carriers place a limit also.  Both Verizon and sprint have the same limit ATT has.

It seems ATT can’t give anything away without looking bad when they limit service as it was sold.

Re: Sudden hot spot throttling

Why did they basically lie by omission then , yes it's in the contract , the written one , that 100% of the people read . But all of the sudden in June they start to  beat it all they slow it to an absolutely useless 128kbps slower than the ice age and completely useless. The real answer is the money they always come up with a way to get you sucked in then stick there hands elbow deep in your pockets again !!!!

Re: Sudden hot spot throttling

Well if people weren't so stupid and abused it then they would not have started enforcing it.  Using 50 plus GB when you are allowed just 10 is going to raise a red flag.  One person used over a terabyte...

OMG!  There was NO omission!   The 10 gig limit was ALWAYS there.  If you abused it, then you are part of the reason ATT now enforced the hard cap.  Blame yourself for not keeping to the 10 gig limit.

Sorry, It's not buried at all.

It's pretty obvious if you looked at the plan details at all.

I understand that you didn't do any reading or research, but you did NOT need to dig around in the contract.

It is great with hotspots! It's 10 GB of data, how you use it is up to you. If you're not streaming video or audio or doing large downloads, it lasts a LONG time.

But all of the sudden in June they start to  beat it all they slow it to an absolutely useless 128kbps slower than the ice age and completely useless.

Which is exactly the plan that you signed up for!  I' m sorry that you didn't take 60-seconds to read the details.

I understand that you were abusing exceeding what the plan offered but the loophole you were going around got blocked.

The real answer is the money they always come up with a way to get you sucked in then stick there hands elbow deep in your pockets again !!!!

No one at AT&T asked you for more money, nor did you get overages with this. They don't even have a way to expand the amount of data you get on the hotspot with this plan.

The real answer is that you didn't care enough to check on the details of your plan and when you had an issue, it's none of your responsibility.

All this information was on-line and in the plan descriptions on day one. I'm sorry you believe that all salespeople give you all the information all the time and that they might say things to influence a sale. You seem to understand the concept of reading the fine print (even though that wasn't necessary here), so I'm quite confused about why you didn't even read the BIG print?

Re: Sudden hot spot throttling

I was told I could stream on the Roku. I was told it might be slowed due to congestion. I didn’t disconnect from Hugesnet for a month to make sure it worked. It worked great for 5 months. They straight up lied to me.

Sorry I don't feel sorry for people that don't read the terms and service and plan details before they sign up.
