Is ATTs promise of Unlimited Data a lie?
I live in a rural area where the only access to WiFi is either hotpoints or unreliable satellite signals. We switched from a very restrictive satellite plan to ATT because they advertise "Unlimited " data. Today, just 8 days into the month, ATT informed us that Hotpoint 128kbps!! Ha ha! That is about like the old 2400 baud dial-up😡 Totally worthless.
This disgrace is on top of the fact that our LTE used to have 4 bars most of the time, but now only has 2 bars👹

No one ever said HOTSPOT data was unlimited so there were no lies anywhere.
The phone itself gets unlimited data, not every other device in someone's household and such. That's in the terms and conditions when the plan was created. It's not the cellular companies obligation to replace wired internet services.

It is a form of bait and switch. They advertise UNLIMITED DATA. Then after you have switched all your devices over (we pay over $200 per month), they suddenly say "oh, did we say data? We meant to say EXCLUDING HOTPOINT". But if we were open, we would lose all the marketing sizzle."
To the lay person Data is data.

There is no bait and switch. The restriction on hotspot (not hotpoint) usage is clearly listed on the plan web site.

terms are. Written terms supersede everything. No one has been lied to
anywhere.

It's upfront and center when looking at the &More Premium plans details.
This has always been in place and nothing has changed or altered. The
definition of terminology according to one person will differ when compared
to someone else's. This is why cellular companies clearly define marketing
and technology terminology from the get go.
Hotspot data and data used on a phone are two completely different things.
Across the entire wireless industry this is common practice. Every single
carrier treats hotspot data and data used on devices as two separate
entities. Cellular just cannot replace a wired broadband connection and
match the capacity, features and such offered with a traditional broadband
platform. Verizon, Sprint, AT&T....all impose hotspot limitations on their
plans. Unlimited data is meant for the phones, tablets and other devices
actually on the network...hotspot data is just a feature for usage on the
go or whenever someone doesn't have access to internet while traveling, on
vacation, business trips, etc. It just isn't meant to behave and replace a
home internet connection.

No. It's not.
Show me a page that advertises UNLIMITED data (for a phone) and I'll show you where that page LITERALLY says hotspot limited to 15GB (or 10GB for older plans).
The fact that you use this IMAGINARY word, makes it clear to me you're referencing anything to do with AT&T's plans.
