IMS Service Messages Backup & Sync won't stop running

I've disabled cloud sync through ATT.com. I've cleared the cache and tried going into messages -> settings -> ATT messages and back up and sync and hit "stop backup". Nothing is working. Please help

Hello @BrentH331!

I hope you are enjoying your day so far! Getting Messages Backup & Sync to stop running is sometimes desired. I have used this service as well and will gladly help fix this today!

Please try the following:

  1. Swipe left from the home screen and select the AT&T folder.
  2. Select the Usage Manager app.
  3. Scroll to the Data usage section and select the Messages Backup and Sync app.
  4. Note: 1.    If you do not see the app you want, select VIEW ALL.
  5. Select storage.
  6. Select Force Stop. If this doesn’t fix the issue please select the Disable option from this same screen.

Please let me know if this helped. If the issue is not resolved, please send me a private message to @ATTCares with your full name, wireless number, contact number, and email address.

I look forward to your reply! Thank you and have a great rest of your day.

I do.not have a Usage Manager Ap. I have searched the phone and Play store but nothing like that appears.

I have a new Galaxy Note 8 and have been trying to solve this problem since I got it 4 days ago.  It kills my battery (or this BETTER be the problem) because the battery doesn't last a day and that consistent "backup" is the only thing I can determiine is constantly running like this.

The IMS Services notice just spins permanently and cannot be closed. I have followed every recommendation on this site for this and similar postings.

Please help.

Go to messages>settings>AT&T Messages Backup & Sync  hit try now and then it should give you the option to stop sync

Mine just started doing it today. Galaxy note 8. It keeps refreshing my deleted messages and then I do everything you said to do on this page and finally it turned off. Well now every 30 minutes or so, it keeps coming back on! There is no way to disable it completely. Only force stop. I turn it off in messages settings and it still keeps coming back on! This is a worthless service! I don't want it and it is messing up anyways! So what do I do now? I can't return the phone and wait for all that time for another one. I just cant. I NEED THE PHONE. So fix it! I paid good money for this. It needs to be perfect for the plan and phone I have, and my job of course.

I also had this problem...I followed some above instructions, going to messages ->settings->more settings ->messages backup and sync. I "restarted" that and it has since went away... no more spinning or battery drain. Yet.  😁

I am sure by now you have already fixed this problem, but I am replying for the next person, who like me just wasted WAY TOO MUCH TIME trying to find an answer other than "open the Usage Manager" which DOESN'T EXIST ON MY PHONE (neither does the "AT&T folder" that is so often referenced).

HERE IS HOW TO STOP THE SYNC FOR ANYONE WHO DOES HAVE "USAGE MANAGER":

1. Settings > APPS > Messages

2. Open the sprocket icon within messages (upper right of screen)

3. Click on "AT&T Messages Backup & Sync" and follow the instructions and such (an additional couple of screens) until you can confirm that you want to turn it off

4. The spinning icon (finally) disappears from the top of your phone notification ribbon

**AT&T Support: brush up your support script so that you can help your customers who received their phone directly from Samsung (aka: pre-release orders) ... the phones are NOT configured with an AT&T folder or the apps that are typically contained within.  Thank you!

I'm on ATT prepaid and can't get it to go far enough along the path to be able to turn it off, is there no hope for me?
