How to Recover Messages From a Lost Phone?

I recently lost a phone that had text messages on it that will likely be subpoenaed from me soon. How can I get copies of these messages or at a minimum the metadata showing a when and to whom a message came from/was sent to?

Hey @jacktomberlin!

I definitely apologize for both the loss of your phone AND your device content! That can certainly be upsetting! I can help you with getting the data straight from your myAT&T online account!

AT&T doesn’t have a way of collecting the text message content but, however, if you had AT&T Messages set up on your phone and account, you can retrieve any messages through there. Do you recall if you had the application set up? Had you done a recent backup of your phone onto a Cloud service or your PC before the phone was lost?

If you would like to learn more, you can click on the article online about AT&T Messages for Android. You can retrieve messages if the AT&T Messages app or AT&T Messages Backup & Sync was previously activated on your phone at the time you lost.

You’re able to view your past wireless usage. Your usage details will include the date, time, the amount of data or the number called/texted, but neither the type of data used nor the actual content of your messages will be available. You can choose from any of the previous 16 billing periods.

Have a great week! Take care! If you have any other questions just let me know!

If it was an iPhone and it was automatically backed up to the cloud, you could restore from there.
