Hello @grannieshouse!

I am big fan of being able to maintain my email account in the easiest way.  I would be happy to help you with erasing the emails on your phone.

Depending on your device, you may have the option of selecting all messages in the inbox, and then moving them to the trash folder.  To check if your phone has this setting, please check out our Device Support Center.

Once you reach the page; please select your make and model, then choose Tutorials > Email & messaging > Send & Receive Email.  You will find the directions at step 10, and you would be looking for an All option on the device.

If you do not have this method available through the phone, no worries.  We can definitely get them all deleted by using the web-based Gmail on your home computer.   Google has a great walk through on how to delete and recover Gmail messages.

Have a great day!
