Group texting between an android and iphones

I have an Android phone. My family all have iPhones. We have been experiencing problems with group messages just recently. I'll send a group message to my family and only one of the recipients will receive it. We have checked our settings but don't know what the problem may be. Are there any suggestions for this?

Hi @Judyvalt.

We can help. For the iPhone users, we’ve got instructions for how to refresh their messaging settings. On your end, we’d recommend also turning your messaging features off, turning the phone off and then on, and then turning the features back on. If you let us know what device you have we can give more specific instructions.

We’d also recommend that everyone in the group deletes the previous messages and start a new thread. In order to prevent spam, we have a group messaging limit of 10 people, so you will need to ensure that your group is 10 people or less.

Let us know if you have further questions. Thanks for reaching out!

Hello @Judyvalt.

For your Samsung S7, we recommend starting by turning off your Advanced Messages and MMS messages:

  1. TURN ON/OFF ADVANCED MESSAGING: From the Messages settings screen, select Advanced MessagingAdvanced Messaging switch.
  2. ACCESS TEXT MESSAGE/MULTIMEDIA SETTINGS: From the Messages settings screen, select More settings. Select Text messages to view message settings. Select Multimedia messages to view multimedia message settings.
  3. Turn off the phone and turn it on again
  4. Select Advanced Messaging and turn it back on. Select Multimedia messages and turn it back on.

The instructions for the iPhone users to do the same are hotlinked in the previous message. After you’ve all refreshed those settings and deleted the previous threads, we recommend you start a new thread. If you’re still having issues with the other users receiving messages, you can try resetting network settings. Check out our forum thread on Android messaging issues for other troubleshooting tips.

If your contacts are still not receiving your texts after following all of these steps, let us know so we can do further troubleshooting on your device.

I'm having the same issue. My siblings all have iPhones, and when one sends a group text I'm the only one who doesn't receive it. Single texts come to me just fine. My phone is a ZTE Quartz from TracFone. Thanks!

I had the same issue with my S9 sending group test to iPhones.  I tried the reset, turn off, turn on, but what fixed it was:

Start a new message.  Put in the same contacts.  type in the message, and presto!  it works!  Why?  Who knows.  Ask the S/W engineers that continue to mess up our phones when they are not broken!!

If your phone number used to be used on an iPhone, you need to unregister that number with the iMessage service (see Apple's web site). Also your friends need to change your contact entry on their phones to be SMS not iMessage.
