How to group text more than 10 on AT&T

Learn what devices support Advance Messaging

_GroupMessageLimit_.png

The Wait is over! Through 2021, AT&T is continuing to increasing the number of people you can group text. It is slowly being rolled out and tested on many devices. Check out David T's  Advance Messaging page for more information regarding group messaging and the new features to come.

***********Information below is still valid for some devices until the update is pushed to it.***********

***********We do not know when your device will support group messaging but it is coming.***********

 Why Are There Limits?

AT&T has implemented a limit to the number of group message participants as a way to protect our customers from spam and/or malicious software. AT&T is vigilant about protecting you, our customers, from unsolicited text message spam.

Is AT&T Going To Update The Limit?

Some devices have the ability to send group messages with up to 30 contacts. More updates are coming to increase that number but I do not have any information when a change will take place. Last updated 2/23/2021.

If spam messages have affected you, you can report them by:

  • Forwarding a copy of the SMS and MMS spam to short code 7726 (SPAM).
  • You are not charged for forwarding the spam message to 7726.

AT&T 10-Text Limit is a big topic and we know that. Check out the information above to learn why there is a limit.

Hello my fellow community peeps!

I have been counting the days for this to happen and to be able to tell you the news! The group text limit of 10 will be a thing of the past. Advance Messaging is slowly being launched to compatible devices with an array of cool features! Air horn!

I'm not buying the reasoning. Everyone else in my family uses a competitor, I have ATT through work device. None of my family members have a problem with spam. In my case, you are limiting my ability to respond to my 6 siblings and there spouses (total of 14) about a summer vacation. Let the consumer have some freedom, get rid of this silly limitation.

Is this why when someone who is Verizon sends a message to 15 people, once people start responding we end up with multiple messages with 10 of the 15 recipients listed on each one? Is AT&T responsible for our group messages ending up in pieces?

This group text limit is ridiculous and the reasoning behind it is even more crazy.  If i'm texting 12 of my friends and expecting responses back from everyone, it's NOT spam. At this point in the game, AT&T as a company should have corrected this "issue" and done away with the limitation. Get it together AT&T. It's honestly annoying enough to consider changing to another provider who can and will support the size of the group texts without limitations.  I have a party of 12 of us planning for a wedding that is being held outside of the country.  We aren't all in the same state. Texting is easier than emailing for things that need a quick response from everyone. We are very close group of friends who like to reach out and talk about things other than this wedding and the limitation is super annoying when I receive three other messages for the same text thread. And since i'm the only one with AT&T they get on me because they're just as annoyed. This company boasts about how they're one of the best but if you ask me, the better companies allow for no limitations on what the consumer wants/needs. As a company you say you "hear" us, but are you listening?  Fix the issue already.

The above is a very weak argument for limiting the number of recipients in a group text to 10.  There is an enormous difference between the 20-30 people that a PTO, or other work group member, would be interested in contacting and the hundreds or thousands of recipients needed by hackers/spammers/etc to be successful.  Simply increase the limit to something reasonable!  I can't even invite 6 couples to dinner with the limit at 10...it's just ridiculous.

have to agree.  stop dragging your feet!

i might get one spam text a year, easily stopped.  a bump to 20 would stop the complaints and not cause a problem.   loosen the grip!

call protect has cut calls from spam, etc to next to nothing.

Dear AT&T,

This is hardly a solved problem. Just because you have a reason for the group text chat to be in place does not mean you have answered or fixed the problem for your users. My family isn't spam and because I'm using your carrier it keeps me from connecting with them in a way that is convenient. I am strongly considering leaving your network because of this limitation. I find it unacceptable that you would not make changes to accommodate  your paying customers.

I am very disappointed that AT&T doesn't allow me to send a group text to more than 10 recipients. I am trying to find a way to communicate with the staff members in my school building in the event of a crisis. I may have to consider changing to another provider it AT&T will not reconsider changing their policy.
