Group Text Limit of 10 Recipients – Good News Is Here

Hi everyone, Chris here. I have some super great news. AT&T is increasing the number of people you can group text and it is slowly being rolled out and tested on specific devices. My buddy David T wrote an Advance Messaging article that goes over group messaging and the new features to come. It has been a long time coming!_GroupMessageLimit_.png

Why Are There Limits?

AT&T has implemented a limit to the number of group message participants as a way to protect our customers from spam and/or malicious software. AT&T is vigilant about protecting you, our customers, from unsolicited text message spam.  We are evaluating options for supporting larger group limits in the future.

Is AT&T Going To Update The Limit?

I can tell you that we are evaluating options for supporting larger group limits in the future. As this time, I do not have any information if or when a change will take place. Last checked 11/20/2018.

If spam messages have affected you, you can report them by:

  • Forwarding a copy of the SMS and MMS spam to short code 7726 (SPAM).
  • You are not charged for forwarding the spam message to 7726.

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT

I'm beginning to think that AT&T doesn't even read these threads of
messages, or they would have already done something about the 10 person
limit on group texting.
Prove me wrong AT&T. PROVE ME WRONG.
Just saying

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT&T

Their response is "Use another service". So they want you to require all of the different people in your group to download some other third party app and use that, instead of using the service that is built all of their phones. It's completely bananas.

They will not ... this is a forever problem, not a new problem. It is not
even a problem, just stupid policy. I have put up with this for 6 years
now, No more. T-mobile has no limit and cheaper

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT

For whatever it's worth and this has probably been addressed....I spoke with AT&T  a few days ago and they have no immediate plans to allow for texting to more than 10 people at a time.  Even if you are sent a text with more that 10 people in the group, you are not able to reply to the group.  Very inconvenient.  You can receive from another carrier but cannot send.  As you know, they are doing this to avoid being spammed.  I can appreciate that, but maybe the should at least increase the limit to 20 or so.

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT&T

This is ridiculous, you have all these people complaining. I never had a problem with my business until i switched to ATT. When we're sending out a mass text many employees and managers cannot communicate. This just gives more of a reason to switch back to a competitor. This needs to be pushed higher up and fixed immediately.

i think they know ... they just don't care ...because not enough people
leave because of this ... Once we all leave and abandon this group,, stock
goes down ... then they will know. Why dont someone shoot corporate an
email and tell them to check out this group

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT&T

It seems like AT&T only reads and reply (plural, since they only reply once in a thread) to these threads soon after they are posted. Then AT&T just ignores anything that gets posted after their reply. Maybe what we should do instead of replying to older post is to keep opening new posts every time we want to remind them that this is a problem. Maybe if we make enough "NEW" issues, AT&T will punish us by lifting the policy to save us from all spam text going around and allow us to get "SPAMMED"  by 20!!!

I wish they were as diligent in protecting us from SPAM CALLS as they are about restricting group texting to only 10. I get way more then 10 calls a day that I have to waste my time answering then blocking.

REMEMBER: Don't reply to old threads. Post new ones about this group texting issue.

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT&T

Or we can just leave ... I finally left for tmobile yesterday. They sent one of their truck to my company during lunch time and they signed me up on the spot. Very convenient. No more problem. I am tired of working with ATT

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT

Good to know...I called ATT yesterday to ask them if I could get a better plan or pay more to get a better text group plan (I'm already on "unlimited" texts  ,which is ironic, right?) The "retention team" eventually said they couldn't help me, so I guess Tmobile is the place to go, eh?

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT

AT&T doesn't care if we switch, until enough people do it. They need to feel it in their pockets before they take action. I'm so done with AT&T. Going to TMolbile ASAP.

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT

They don't care about this problem. They only understand $$$.When enough people switch to another provider, then they'll take action. It'll be too late for me by then.  Sick of AT&T.

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT

Why does AT&T keep marking these issues as solved when the issue clearly isn't solved. AT&T has been "evaluating options" for over 4 years now! What problems are you trying to figure out that you can't find the solution that's clearly asked for in this forum? Raise the limit to 20. No one here is complaining about "Spam group text" because that is not an issue to us. By AT&T customer support not responding to these messages with new replies and just re-posting an answer from months earlier ( Feb 5, 2018 11:42 AM - edited Nov 20, 2018 12:03 PM ) shows that they do not even spend any time evaluating this problem and would rather just mark these issues solved instead of doing anything about them.

AT&T, let me make this as clear as possible for you so maybe you can understand it. Raise the group text limit to 20 and do something about all the SPAM CALLS we get daily!

Re: Group Text Limit – Information from AT&T

Let me get this straight, you limit the phone owner from replying to a group text over 10 people, and you limit us from sending a text over 10 people, but a group of 1000 people can include me on a text to which I cant respond, all the while I get 15 -20 spam calls per day??? Hmmm
