How to group text more than 10 on AT&T

Learn what devices support Advance Messaging

_GroupMessageLimit_.png

The Wait is over! Through 2021, AT&T is continuing to increasing the number of people you can group text. It is slowly being rolled out and tested on many devices. Check out David T's  Advance Messaging page for more information regarding group messaging and the new features to come.

***********Information below is still valid for some devices until the update is pushed to it.***********

***********We do not know when your device will support group messaging but it is coming.***********

 Why Are There Limits?

AT&T has implemented a limit to the number of group message participants as a way to protect our customers from spam and/or malicious software. AT&T is vigilant about protecting you, our customers, from unsolicited text message spam.

Is AT&T Going To Update The Limit?

Some devices have the ability to send group messages with up to 30 contacts. More updates are coming to increase that number but I do not have any information when a change will take place. Last updated 2/23/2021.

If spam messages have affected you, you can report them by:

  • Forwarding a copy of the SMS and MMS spam to short code 7726 (SPAM).
  • You are not charged for forwarding the spam message to 7726.

Good to know...I called ATT yesterday to ask them if I could get a better plan or pay more to get a better text group plan (I'm already on "unlimited" texts  ,which is ironic, right?) The "retention team" eventually said they couldn't help me, so I guess Tmobile is the place to go, eh?

AT&T doesn't care if we switch, until enough people do it. They need to feel it in their pockets before they take action. I'm so done with AT&T. Going to TMolbile ASAP.

They don't care about this problem. They only understand $$$.When enough people switch to another provider, then they'll take action. It'll be too late for me by then.  Sick of AT&T.

Why does AT&T keep marking these issues as solved when the issue clearly isn't solved. AT&T has been "evaluating options" for over 4 years now! What problems are you trying to figure out that you can't find the solution that's clearly asked for in this forum? Raise the limit to 20. No one here is complaining about "Spam group text" because that is not an issue to us. By AT&T customer support not responding to these messages with new replies and just re-posting an answer from months earlier ( Feb 5, 2018 11:42 AM - edited Nov 20, 2018 12:03 PM ) shows that they do not even spend any time evaluating this problem and would rather just mark these issues solved instead of doing anything about them.

AT&T, let me make this as clear as possible for you so maybe you can understand it. Raise the group text limit to 20 and do something about all the SPAM CALLS we get daily!

Let me get this straight, you limit the phone owner from replying to a group text over 10 people, and you limit us from sending a text over 10 people, but a group of 1000 people can include me on a text to which I cant respond, all the while I get 15 -20 spam calls per day??? Hmmm

I have two Samsung J3 phones with AT&T. One of the phones experiences the 10 max. The other doesn't. They had difference messages apps... I changed the phone with the app the has the 10 max limit to use Messenger instead of the messaging app that came with the phone and it appears to work fines... it appears to be a text messaging app issue... try Messenger.

I have given up waiting for AT&T to update their policy on limiting texting to no more than 10.

I have been with AT&T for over 20 years, but it has only been in the past 2 years that I have needed to text "groups".

But....I've contacted Consumer Cellular, and now starting today my family of 3 will have a limit of 20 and that number

will suit me just fine.  Oh, and I'm saving, counting fees and taxes, about $50.00 or more per month.

Sorry to go AT&T, but you haven't kept up with technology.
