Failed text won't stop re-sending

Please help! Last night I tried sharing a PDF file from my daughter's school and tried sending it to my mom's phone and it failed to send, but it won't stop re-sending it! I can't figure out how to make it stop! I click on the button next to the failed message and click on cancel but it's still sending 300 times later and still hasn't stopped!

Hey there @SBlack!

I’m sorry to hear about that looping message! That would definitely be annoying to deal with!

What kind of phone are you using? On most androids you can delete a message to prevent it from continually trying to send (Messages > Message thread > MORE > Delete).

You can perform this similarly on iPhones by opening the thread and hitting edit at the top!

I have the same problem, although I sent a picture. I deleted the original message that i tried to send, which came back as failed to send, but it's still trying to send to the recipient (on his end), AND now it says that the recipient is trying to send me the same image...at least 100 times so far.

How to i force the app to stop? (I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge) I went to Applications, Messages, force stop, and it still didnt stop them from coming through.

Help!!

Hello there @swimmer2278!

My apologies for the stuck message that would definitely be annoying! Good work so far, those are many of the common ways to root out this problem!

I would suggest trying to clear the messaging data and cache on top of the force stop next. This won’t remove any of your stored messages, but may be just the extra push to get this repeating business taken care of.

You can find those options similarly located to the force stop (Settings > Device > Applications > Application Manager > Messages > Storage).

Feel free to keep us updated on this matter, we’re happy to help here in the AT&T Community!

 Hello,

I'm having the same issuing regarding a PDF that I sent that now both the recipient and myself have each received approximately 400 times. Each time, it either shows the PDF as "failed" or "canceled".

I've done the following to try to correct and nothing has worked:

- Clear Cache

- Clear Data

- Force Stop

- Delete Message Thread

- Hard Factory Reset

Even after I did a hard factory reset, as soon as I turned the phone back on the file kept coming through once a minute.

HELP!

Thank you,

Claire

Goodmorning @Clairejh!

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing the repeating message issue. Thank you so much for listing the troubleshooting steps you have already taken, this helps narrow down what our next steps should be.

We want to make sure the recipient has completed the same troubleshooting, to ensure the error isn’t on their end.

Sometimes the cause of the issue can get stored in your backup. Setting up the phone as “New” after a factory reset will allow us to rule this out.  You will still need to back up your information to make sure nothing is lost.

If the file continues to return when the phone does not have the backup installed, please head to our Troubleshoot and Resolve tool. You’ll want to make sure you are logged into your account as well as choose your device’s make and model. Select Service/Network issues > Messaging and work through the troubleshooting steps as if you are unable to receive the messages, this way our system can resend the network signals.

Thank you so much for reaching out to us and I hope this helps out!

I have an LG V20 and I have 3kb message stuck in failed to send mode that repeats several times an hour. It is now slowing down everything message box related.
I have tried the following things to fix this:
Force stop
Data/cache cleared
Restarted phone
Turned data and wifi off for 30 min.
Removed phone battery for 30 min.

There is no option to delete the actual message from the thread.

I would prefer not to have to reset phone to original setting unless I have a way to backup everything already on it.

Please advise on any further steps.
