Email to Text Gateway

From last Thursday ( 03/Mar/2018 ) email to text using gateway stopped working. Messages we send via email are not reaching to end users. Is there any reason why all of a sudden its stopped working. We checked for few other service providers, all good. Also we tried for many numbers, so the problem is not with one number, its a global issue.

Re: Email to Text Gateway

Hello @ganeshhsk,

I have an article for you to review. This article is a step-by-step instruction on sending an email to text message.  Send a message to an AT&T wireless device by email. In my research I found, the text number you're sending to if it is not an AT&T carrier requires the recipient format. If the format in unknown, request the recipient to inform  you of the other carriers format for sending email to text; for example, 5551234567@txt.att.net.  This is an example for AT&T customers.

If you require additional assistance please reach back out.

Re: Email to Text Gateway

Hello,

Thank you for the reply. Apologies that I created a ticket before confirming more on my end. Found that there is no problem in the AT&T carrier. I send email to text message using "Send Grid" email service provider. The problem is with the "Send Grid" email service provider were they failed to send mails only to AT&T carrier. I have already raised a ticket with them regarding the same.

Re: Re: Email to Text Gateway

I am unable to email to text from several different email addresses following your solution above. I called AT&T support and was told on the phone that as of August 1, 2018 AT&T is no longer supporting email to text and to no longer rely on it.

Still working for me as of October 20, 2018.

Re: Re: Email to Text Gateway

My 'email to text' suddenly stopped working in the last week. At least on the server that my code is on. If I do a simple php mail() test on another server it works fine. It's almost like AT&T is blocking the IP of my server suddenly.

How many messages do you send that way a week? (Maybe they are!)

Re: Re: Email to Text Gateway

I don't think you are being blocked. I am having the same problem. HourlyShifts.com communicates with its members through text messages, via "mail" command from a PHP program.  There is no problem with any of the Cell Providers except the AT&T customers. They are the only ones not getting the text messages. T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Metro PCS, Boost subscribers are all getting the messages.  It is only the AT&T subscribers who aren't getting the text messages.

Re: Re: Email to Text Gateway

Were you able to find out if you are being blocked? I have the same issue but I haven't tried it on another server. One of my members reported it to AT&T and they are investigating.  You should have one of your AT&T subscribers report the problem.

Re: Re: Email to Text Gateway

My messages were just simple notification messages to monitor changes to a website and I was sending less than 10 per week. In the process of debugging this I added timestamps to the messages so that if they did make it through to my phone I'd have some idea of when things were working. What I noticed with the timestamps is that most (maybe all) the message do eventually come through as text messages but they can be delayed by several days. That explains why over the past few years I would get text notifications but when I looked at the website I was monitoring there were no noticeable changes. I had thought there was some bad logic in my code that would trigger false positives but it turns our that text messages were just very delayed.

At this point I don't know what the solution is other than to hope that things become more reliable and responsive between the email and text processing.

Re: Re: Email to Text Gateway

I am not able to receive email-to-text messages on my phone, and these are critical for my job. I was told after multiple hours on the phone with AT&T support that the previous website that you could use to set messaging preferences, messages.att.net has been taken down. No one seems to be able to answer for me why this doesnt work, but every time I try an email to mynumber@txt.att.net and mynumber@mms.att.net they bounce back saying that "the subscriber has restricted email". How can it be so difficult to identify where the restriction is and to lift it?

Re: Re: Email to Text Gateway

Quick reply to let you know I'm in the same boat. I have a new job and because AT&T took down the website to manage settings I cannot allow an additional domain in the e-mail restrictions I put on my txt.att.net number. I called support a few times and it was escalated, but the answer came back that it's no longer possible to self-manage those settings and AT&T is not able to change them for me. I still receive texts from the domains I previously allowed, I just can't add new domains to the whitelist.

Re: Re: Email to Text Gateway

This not a solution.

The only solution appears to be to be a phone from a different cell phone provider.
