Can't send group message in Advanced Message Galaxy S9+

I have a Galaxy S9+. Starting after an update in the last few days, I can only receive, but not send text messages into group texts where there are only 3 or 4 persons in those groups. I can send pictures, but not texts. In these particular group texts, the message type is "Advanced Messaging," the ones marked with 2 heads. However those group texts where I can send texts are message types of "Multimedia Message," marked with just a number in a circle.

I have tried a Network Reset and restarting my phone. I've also tried turning off Advanced Messaging in the message settings and restarting my phone. Neither has made a difference. I still cannot send to those group messages with message type "Advanced Messaging."

The notification I receive is an orange exclamation mark by the unsent message. When I go to "View Details" of the unsent message, it indicates "failed" to every recipient. One of the group texts affected is the one with my family and we're on the same ATT plan. It appears the difference in ability to send a group text is advanced vs multimedia type messaging.

My only work around at the moment is to start a new text conversation with the same group. However when they reply, it reverts back to me not able to send a reply forcing me to "start" another group text with them.

I tried a live chat with ATT, which ended in them saying they would open a ticket and I would get an email notification when the ticket was opened. That was on April 21st. I still haven't received notification email or contact regarding the ticket opening. I'm very disappointed in how this has been handled.

Hello @AUgolden,

Thank you for reaching out. We're aware of this issue, and we recommend that you follow these steps to wipe the cache partition for the device to see if it helps:

1. Turn off the device.

2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.

3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.

4. An 'Installing system update' message will show for 30 - 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.

5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.

6. Press the Power key to select.

7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, then press the Power key to select.

8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.

9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Please give that a try and let us know if it helps.

This will only delete my cache, correct? This will not delete anything else like pictures, texts, or such?

@ATTCares @ATTCares I tried the steps you gave me twice to clear the partition. It did not clear up my texting issue as originally described. Nothing has changed, as seen in attached image. I still cannot text to Advanced Messages group texts and continue getting the failed exclamation mark.

@ATTCares Thanks for the referral to these additional steps. I tried these before, but they're from 2017 and some did not apply. I adapted to my current phone, but they did not work.

Hello. I am having the same issue as the OP. Do you have any updates to provide? I also tried your trouble shooting suggestion and it did not work. I found a few other suggestions that did not work either... this just started happening all of a sudden yesterday.

The interesting thing is when i re-create the group chat, it will allow me to send messages. But if I access the group chat from my inbox, it tries to send it as an advanced message and fails. I tried turning off advanced messaging but it won't even let me type on the keyboard to the group chat when i do that.

I can send gifs and pictures though, and have no issues sending texts to individual people. What is going on?

Any updates?  I am having the same issue and it is very frustrating.  I have a Galaxy S7 Edge.  Is this an issue just for those with older models?  Are Galaxy S10 users having the same issue? I have tried all of the fixes in the link.  The only one that works for me is clearing data in settings of the messages app.  However, the fix only lasts until messages are restored.  After I did this, starting a new text group stopped working as a temporary fix.

Having the same issues. I've tried everything above. Nothing works. This is my only group message that's "advanced". The others are multimedia.

Crickets on this issue from AT&T but my bill doesn't stop coming. Seems like after the recent update it started happening. If it's a "known issue" that is being worked towards why have people try various troubleshooting? This issue is still not resolved.
