But no, changing your cellular data plan does not lock you into a new contract.
AT&T doesn't normally do contracts any more. You might decide to pay for a phone over two years, but that's not a contract for a plan, it's jut paying off a phone you purchased.

There are no more service contracts. Changing plans doesn't effect service terms.
