What exactly is this? I just started getting a message on my phone yesterday stating " Updating AT&T& secure family data".

The AT&T Secure Family is an app that allows you to manage other devices on your plan, most notably your children. The feature ranges from managing their internet usage, to limiting purchases. This feature replaced Smart Limits recently. Please let us know if you have any further questions about this app, and its functionalities.

Thanks for the replay. Okay so I have not install it or launched it. Why has this message appeared on my screen on 12/4/18 and continue to stay there?

Hi, @MWE4797U,

 

The alert may have remained because you haven't opened the app since it has installed and updated itself. Go ahead and open the app and see if that permits you to remove the alert. If you didn't have an account on AT&T Smart Limits, don't worry about trying to sign in. If that doesn't help and you don't plan to avail yourself of the services, try to remove the app and see if that removes the alert.
