AT&T Call Protect App for iPhone

I've had this app on my iPhone SE for several months and it works fairly well, but there doesn't seem to be much info available on it; for instance today a friend (on my contacts list) called and there seems to be an option in Call Protect called "Save as contact" which I assume would cause Call Protect to show that number as a friend in future calls. Problem is, I tap on that option "Save as contact" and NOTHING HAPPENS.  It does not save it as anything, and in fact it usually tries to call the number, which of course is not what I'm after.  Is this some option which is not fully implemented, or what?  A more pressing problem is that the app almost never actually seems to detect (and block) a call which, in fact, is genuinely a spam/robocall. Of course, I can (and do) block it manually but the app only saves it as "blocked" for 30 days--ridiculous!  Does AT&T think that the spam number will somehow become a good, trustworthy number after 30 days?  And, if I have to manually block numbers, then the question is, why even use Call Protect--the iPhone already has a built-in "block" feature which is easier to use, and is permanent, instead of limited to 30 days. Would appreciate any comments or suggestions on these matters, thank you in advance!

P.S.   Oh, wow, I just discovered that this board is apparently not associated with iOS apps, and perhaps I have posted incorrectly.  If so, then sorry, but if anyone knows where AT&T actually has information/feedback on their Call Protect app, please let me know!

Hello @jennatx

Thank you for reaching out on the Community Forums.  The Call Protect app is a gret way to cut down on spam and fraud calls.  I would be happy to help you with this.

We have a great FAQ section which can be found in this article and has a lot of information on how the app works.  The phone has to have LTE turned on and be able to receive an LTE signal for it to alert to possible spam calls.  It will not automatically block spam only known fraud calls.

The 30 day block is there because many times the numbers spammers use are used for only short period of times so the 30 day limit will help keep the list manageable.  The great perk the app has over device blocking is it blocks the number on a cellular level which means they are unable to leave a voicemail.

I will also foward your feedback on about the "Save as contact" feature so it can be looked into.  They are constantly looking for ways to improve the app and feedback from users is the quickest way.

I hope this information helps clear things up, and if you have any further questions please let us know.  Have a great day!

Thanks for your reply! The "advantage" you spoke of, preventing telemarketers from leaving a voicemail, is little consolation to me--would be much better if it prevented the phone from ringing in the first place! I can easily delete unwanted voicemails at a later time. And, why doesn't it block spam calls, or really, any and all marketing, fraud or otherwise? I'm paying good money for my phone account and when it rings I want to see a friend, neighbor or relative, nothing else!
It's not a bad app, but it could be so much better!

Hello @jennatx

Thank you so much for your feedback.  I will make sure to pass it all on to the relevant department as maybe an option in the future.  I completely understand, I really only want to answer calls from friends and family, it's gotten to the point where if I don't recognize the number I let it go straight to voicemail so I can decide later if it is a legit call or not.

If you think of anything else we could improve on in the app, please let us know.  I hope you have an amazing weekend!
