771 SIGNAL LOSS

I brushed off my dish after a 1 foot snow storm. I am getting 771 error messages on most of my channels. I have done this before without any problems.

post your signal readings to see how your signals are

You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners. If you have a DVR it's important to check BOTH satellite tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner on the new post you create, using the example below as a guide. (The example below is only an example and not a form that will appear in your post unless you "cut" and "paste" it.) A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):
Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)
[Most of your standard definition channels are beamed from 101ºW]
1-8 X X X X X X X X
9-16 X X X X X X X X
17-24 X X X X X X X X

If you want to start your own thread, that might be helpful.

@evelynamelia if you dish is covered with snow, you may have to wait until the snow falls off the dish.  If your dish is misaligned, you may have to wait until is safe for a tech to get to the dish.

If you are still getting signal loss on a lot of channels after removing the snow from the dish, you can try giving the receiver a hard reset. Unplug it from the wall for a few second and just plug it back in. This will re-establish the receiver's connection to the signal and in hope will bring back your programming.

@Lat192, actually this is NOT a good idea when the dish is covered with snow or ice.  The Receiver/DVR will likely hang up during boot-up while trying to find the satellite signal.  Best to just leave things alone until the snow/ice is cleared.  DVR's connected to the internet will continue to function with OnDemand content while the satellite signal is absent.

@Lat192 @litzdog911 is spot on! Is never a good idea to reset a receiver during a storm.

I only suggested that he reset the receiver if the dish is clear of any snow or ice.

I never said they should reset the receiver during any storm so you need to get your eyes checked. Now if the dish is clear of snow and ice and he is still getting signal loss resetting the receiver is a good way to re-establish the receiver's connection to the signal since it was lost.
