Poor Picture Quality When Watching Sports

How have problem with the picture quality when watching football games or programs that have graphics changing quickly such as Sportscenter.  I had AT&T install a Wi-Fi booster when I upgraded internet to Internet 100/100 mbs.  Reception is consistently strong in the room where my Roku device and TV are located.  I do not have the same problem when streaming the same event on YouTube Live Tv.

Re: Poor Picture Quality When Watching Sports

Hey @cbraddoc,

We want to get you streaming your favorite football games! Please let us know if there are any particular channels where this happens. Is this happening with your Roku device, or is it affecting other devices, as well?

We look forward to your feedback on this!

Re: Poor Picture Quality When Watching Sports

I've not experienced the problem when streaming games on YouTube Live TV, the problem has only occurred since I've been testing DIRECTVNOW.  It seems to happen on all channels when viewing football, ESPN, ESPNU and ESPN2, CBSN and CBS, FOX, FS1, FS2, but doesn't seem to affect other sporting events.  I know that sounds strange but the quality issue is very noticeable and occurs frequently but it is not constant. I have Hulu and Youtube TV now and plan to switch to DIRECTVNOW because of the channel selection.  I have to subscribe to both Hulu and YOUTUBE TV to get the channels we want but that is $80 whereas DIRECTVNOW gives me more channels than the two combined for $65.  Since I don't have the problem on the other services when viewing games I don't think it is the ROKU Streaming Stick+, my AT&T 100 internet connection (the signal is strong in that room) or my TV a Samsung 720p HDTV plasma screen.

Re: Poor Picture Quality When Watching Sports

I've only been a subscriber for 2 weeks and until last night's CFP game, I've had no issues with viewing quality, streaming buffers, etc. However, last night's game on ESPN had intermittent but frequent buffering, pixelation and varying picture quality. I'm viewing via 4k Roku TV and gigabit fiber signal so that's not the problem. Other streaming apps worked fine. Anyone else have similar issues?

Re: Poor Picture Quality When Watching Sports

Yes, I have essentially the same issue. 4K Roku Ultra via Cat6 across the Gigabit fiber (routinely testing out at 800Mbps down and 700Mbps up)... and Netflix is butter smooth. But, DirecTV Now (been a customer for about 3 months) was great at first... last month or so, live TV, especially high motion like sports, has been pixelating and poor picture quality at times. The CFP was terrible last night. As is NFL games that are live. CBS, Fox and ESPN... so, I'm pointing at DirecTV Now as the culprit.

Re: Poor Picture Quality When Watching Sports

I ended up cancelling DIRECTV LIVE due to endless issues like those.  I really wanted to like and stick with the service but there were too many problems.  I have YouTube TV and am very happy with it.  The picture quality is better than what I had with DirecTv and it rarely has any buffering issues and they are very short in duration when they do occur.

It's DirecTV Now. Not DirecTV Live or DirecTV.

Re: Poor Picture Quality When Watching Sports

exactly the same problem!  my directv satellite showed the game better.  i recorded on my dvr and in the directvN cloud.

apparently....dtN chooses to send an inferior signal due to the 19mbs bt rate standard.  they have to divide it up.  but doesnt DTv have to do the same?  there is some kind of hang up.

will atnt every let us know?

has your question been answered yet?  no...

Re: Poor Picture Quality When Watching Sports

I’m having the same issues. No issues with Directv on any channel except when watching football. The games are continuously showing pixels and cutting in/out. No issues streaming Netflix or Prime. Have to hit the bars to watch games because it’s not watchable.
