The Remote Signal

The remote uses light to send commands to the receiver. If anything is blocking the receiver, this can effect functionality of the remote. Tempered glass in some entertainment centers can interfere with the signal. For the best experience, the receiver should be free and clear of obstructions. 

Also, turning the brightness down on the TV can resolve most signal issues. Remember, the remote uses a “light signal!”

Re-syncing the remote 

The easiest way to fix your remote is by pressing and holding the Mute and Enter button until you see “Applying IR/ RF setup” appear on the screen.

Reset Your Receiver  

Resetting the receiver may restore remote functions. Near the access card is a red reset button, press and hold that until the receiver restarts.

Test Your Batteries    

Over time batteries lose their charge. Before you change them, test them. Press and hold any button on your remote. If you see a solid green light, this means the batteries are strong. If the light is blinking quickly, the batteries are still good but may need to be replaced down the road. If it blinks slowly or not at all, the batteries will need to be replaced.

Need To Program Your Remote?   

If the remote controls only your DIRECTV receiver but not your TV, you can program your remote by:

• Pressing  Menu. Go to Settings and Help >> Settings  >> Remote Control >> Program Remote >>TV.

Select the brand of your TV. From there, you will be prompted with step by step instructions to program your remote. For additional help with programming your DIRECTV Remote use this online tool.

Unable To Program Your Remote?

Not all TV's will work with the DIRECTV remotes. Some may have limited functions like:

• Controlling volume
• Turning the TV on or off.

In some instances, you may need to purchase a true universal remote.

I couldn't seem to get any assistance so I went to U-tube I found what I needed. It's working properly now.

I could not get the remote to turn the TV on/off or to control the volume. I replaced the batteries and reset the box. Neither helped so I went through the process of resetting the remote to the factory settings. Now, none of the functions work. When I press any button the remote only responds with rapid green blinking. There’s no menu button on the small receiver box so I don’t know what to do next? Help

We are having trouble with our remote. It will turn the tv on and off and will control the volume. It will not turn on the receiver, change channels, or show us the guide.  This is a new problem this evening.  We have changed the batteries, reset the receiver, and tried to reprogram the remote with no success. What should we try next?  Our remote is an RC 66. Thank you

What do you mean by AV receiver? My RC43 remote was programmed to the Direct TV box. Not the TV. It was lost so I bought a new one (also a RC43) and followed the directions but it just continued with the Weak or No Signal warning on TV. I followed the instructions on package (menu, then something pops onscreen to choose settings.) it did not. Tried many times. Tried directions online (press enter & mute together) nothing happens. Checked all cords on DirTV box, tried resetting. Getting frustrated. It’s brand new remote, new batteries. Turns on box, nothing more.

Not sure what post you're replying to.

There is no RC43 remote. Doublecheck your model number.

"Weak or No Signal" is a TV message. You're not set to the correct Video INPUT for your DirecTV box. Or your DirecTV box is off.

Can’t believe I got to this point but I wanted a new remote from Direct TV and after some back and fourth I was rewarded with one free of charge yesterday. I was tired of using the TV, Apple TV and Direct TV remotes and want to use just one. I received the typical large white or (Universal) Direct TV remote and not the smaller (Peanut) type. Went on Utube and in 5 min reviewed many quick and easy methods to pair this remote up to my Westinghouse Flat Screen TV. I decided to go with the very popular method of Slide top bar to TV position....TV and Direct TV receiver both on at this point....Then Hold Select & Mute and wait for the double flash then press 991... then after double flash press 1 again....then pressing down the channel button eventually the TV shuts off...At this point select button is pressed then power button is pressed ...pressing the channel up multiple times turns the TV back on and Bravo were in business. Volume works ...Chanel works. Guide works...Everything Great !!!....EXCEPT Input will not select ??? Why ??? I went online and opened a chat session with Cecil and we started messing with it. I was almost at the goal line when he asked me to go to Advanced Setting and change IR/RF settings....What Happened Now I have Nothing and cannot communicate with my direct TV receiver at all other than power and volume....Can’t change channels or get guide or menu or anything....Totally screwed myself here... Spent 2 hours on the phone and spoke with multiple techs and they had no idea....I have reset the receiver multiple times and have had no luck...I'm sure I changed the frequency on the receiver and need the sequence to reverse it......Please Help 🙂

Ok after reading all of the info for either resetting and or buying a new remote for the Directv account. Is there a way to reset the remote over to my 55" smart 4k tv. And also I had saw on the tv on the commercial of At&t that they now have a way to either set a remote and or to buy there package/s for a smart 4k tv? And if I have to buy the package for this what would it cost me in order to do this?

I spent many many hours searching for answers and trying to program my older style Directv remote (RC65RX, RC66RX, they fit and work better for me). I finally ran across the answer.

The goal was to program the remote to also control my Audio Video Receiver so that I can mute and adjust volume.

The instructions printed here and everywhere else do work .......

 as long as you do ONE IMPORTANT THING first (that Directv doesn't tell you):

program your TV into the Directv remote control FIRST; whether you plan on using the remote for the TV or not.

In fact, ANY TV will work whether you own it or not.

1. Move the top slider switch to “TV”:

     2.press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

1. enter the TV code

then, to get the audio/video receiver working:

1. Move the top slider switch to av1 or av2

2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

3. enter receiver Code for your AVR that is listed under "programming remote" in the "Settings"

to get the volume to work on any device selection:

1. Make sure slider switch is still set to av1 or av2

2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

3. enter 9 9 3

4. press SELECT
