Please go into settings and turn resolutions (native) off. Then set resolutions to 1080i or the resolution your TV supports. Thanks for reaching out!

Hello. The proposed solution did not work for me. Native is OFF, HDMI control is OFF, resolution keeps resetting to 480p and must be manually reset. This is becoming untenable. System is a Genie 2 and a 4K Genie mini that was just installed last month. This feels like a software error in the Genie operating system. Never had such issues with the old HR34/700 DVR.

Have several customers with the same issue and this morning I think I found the fix. I could go into Display and uncheck 480, add 1080, turn HDMI control off, and the wireless client would work fine until power down. At power up, would get server issue, try again, and so on, would have to reboot and restore above display settings. I figured the problem was communication between the TV and the box, so I took the HDMI cable off of the HDMI ARC port and moved it to another HDMI port and that seems to have solved all of the problems. Also had a customer with an AV receiver having the same issue and turning ARC, CEC and HDMI control off in the AV receiver solved the problem. These problems appeared after the user interface upgrade.

As a tech my issue is with component cables on a c41 when tv has no hdmi. I am able to get 720 and 1080 no problem, till I turn the reciever off and it goes back to 480.
I have unchecked 480, native off, hdmi control off only 720 only 1080 on nothing holds the resolution. And when you scroll threw the resolutions after turning back on only shows 480 even though 720 is still selected in the resolutions. Need to uncheck and recheck to get them to register.
I used my tv in my van to confirm it wasn't the tv, component used to be the fix all for hdmi handshake issues. Now component seems to be a downfall, I have been on more then 1 job where this is a issue. Spent 4 hrs at a house in December trying to figure this out had tech come and bring me a different model client still same issue.
If there is some solution to this please let me know I am stumped and ISS claims first they have ever heard of this.

I had the same issue with the latest mini genie with latest upgrade. For whatever its worth, its connected to a Samsung UN65MU6070 via HDMI port 1 (non-ARC). For some strange reason my dog always finds and sits on the remote whenever it is at the foot of the bed. Usually she manages to, change channels, turn the volume down or up full blast, etc. This particular time nothing changed when she first sat on it, but I looked up a few seconds later and saw a banner at the bottom of the screen. I only had a second or two to read it and all I saw was something about 'switching to SD mode' or 480p.Then the screen flickered and my genie switched everything to 480p. I thought I could just go to the 'resolutions' settings and turn the correct resolutions back on, but all the correct boxes were checked just like they had been since initial setup. I spent the next hour or so going through every setting I could think of on the DTV box, then rebooted the it twice. I then went through the Samsung settings. Nothing. No Bueno. Stuck at 480p. Fortunately I checked the DTV forums and stumbled across an old post from 2013 for a completely different DTV DVR. It mentioned something about pressing the 'Exit' button on the remote for 10 seconds. Never heard or read about this feature / function or its purpose. So, with no other options, I tried it. After 8-10 seconds a banner appeared at the bottom of the screen saying 'Switching back to your previous HD settings' after a couple more seconds the display switched back to 1080p, the banner disappeared, and that was that. I hope this simple undocumented function helps someone else.

Pressing the Exit button on the remote for 10 seconds. YOU ARE THE BOMB!!!! Our cat laid on the remote and we just went through the same frustrating steps of checking all the TV settings. Thank you for posting this and getting this into a 2018 "issue"

Thank you sooooo much. Pressing and holding the exit button worked for me as well. I had been having the resolution issue for the past week or so where my HD tv kept reverting to 480 after turning the directv genie mini on. I could correct it by going back into the settings, but, as we all know that’s a 20 million step process.

This does work, until I turn my TV off. When I turn it back on the same problem occurs and I have to change the resolution back again.

Same problem on both of my genies.
Probable cause: Software glitch/timing issue. My guess is at that the genie queries the TV's hdmi port status, both during power up and while the genie is on. My remote is paired to my TV. Pressing remote's ON button powers up both TV and genie. My guess is that the TV's HDMI port isn't "ready" when genie checks it, and genie then defaults to 480p.
SOLUTION: Turn on the TV before turning on the genie.
NOTE: Genie resets to 480p if genie is kept on and TV is turned off and then back on again. In this case, merely leaving the TV on and then turning the genie off and back on again restores settings.
This method never requires a reset of TV Resolutions from Display Settings menu. Whew!

OMG - thank you - I had the same problem with my dog.... saw the message but didn't read it in time, I thought it said 'press info twice' - and have spent about 10 hours on this.... thank you!!!!!! This was it - hold 'EXIT' for 10 seconds...

Turning the TV and Genie (on and off separately) solved the problem!! After spending several hours troubleshooting this (and nearly decreasing the United States Gross Domestic Product by wasting time going through 50 slow menu settings every time I wanted to watch TV), I am thrilled it was this simple.
Said differently: You simply have to change the convenient habit of using the Genie remote to turn your TV and Genie on at the same time. Turn your TV on first, and it will *not* recognize the HDMI connection to your Genie (because it is off). When you turn the Genie on, it will default back to the settings you had the last time you watched Direct TV.
Note: I did try holding down the Enter key for 10 seconds but it brought up some type of setting menu for my Samsung TV and did not work.
Tech from Direct TV suggested changing my older HDMI cable to a new one but I do not believe this will make a difference. If I try it and it works, I will repost here.
Now, how do I teach the rest of my family the discipline to turn them on separately!? Ha!
