I'm trying to activate my iPad so I can download my DVR items onto it and watch it anywhere. But when searching or manually entering the S/N it still can't find the receiver. I've erased the app and reinstalled it and it still can't find it.

What model DVR do you have?
How is the DVR connected to your home network? Be as detailed as possible.
How is your GenieGo connected to your home network?
How does your iPad connect to your home network?

for the Serial Number, you should be entering the Serial Number of your GenieGO. It is on the bottom of the box.
How is your GenieGO connected to your network? what is the status of the LEDs?

I have a GenieGO HD Receiver HR44/500.
It's connected to a wireless router and everything is connected and blinking.

You're misunderstanding. The GenieGO is a separate device, it is not your HR44, which is a Genie. The link shows what a GenieGO is. Do you have one of these?
