Genie internet connection

I just purchased a Netgear AC 1900 with dula cahnell, 2.5 and 5g channel. I connected my Genie to the internet (wirelessly) by searching for available wifi, choosing the Netgear 5g and it connected.

When I go into the Genie menu, it shows that I am connected to the internet, but does not show what I am actually connected to.

My question is, if I connected to the netgear 5g, can this connection change to another wifi source automatically, or would I manually have to connect to a different wifi source? I want to know that I am and will always be conected to the 5g and this will not change

Please advise

Re: Genie internet connection

If you connected to the 5g it will remain on that Wifi, unless you manually change it to the 2.5

Yes, I know.  I would like to connect my iPad to the 5G branch of my wifi router. How do I do that?

That's a question for your WiFi Router manufacturer or service provider.  It has nothing to do with DirecTV.

Re: Genie internet connection

I have a Samsung tablet and I suppose the iPad has an app for 'settings'. Click on the app and you'll see 'connections' Click on that and you will see your interest connection. When you see your SSID, click on that and it will show you router ip address. You have to turn on 'the scan for wireless' and then your iPad and a lot of devices will show up giving the address, name, speed in Mhz for everyone that is running WiFi if their signal is strong enough to reach you. Now you can add you iPad by name and the router will give you an IP address. If everything is ok, it'll show up as connected. It's really easy just don't get frustrated.

Re: Genie internet connection

You'll see 2.5 &5g in settings/connection. You have the scan for wifi activated in the pad. It will show both of the channels and you pick and get an IP address from the router. When the screen comes up, you have an option to choose. With the scan on the name of iPad will show and then you put the password of the router to connect.

Re: Genie internet connection

Mobile device cannot use DirecTV equipment as connection to internet. They can connect to certain Genie models to access DirecTV in-home viewing.
