Not "our" chat as we are customers like yourself. Chat support is only when there is an available chat agent. I suspect they have more over the phone agents than chat agents. If you need to discuss with DirecTV call 1-800-531-5000, AT&T 1-800-288-2020, or if you prefer over the internet you can go to @ATTDIRECTVCare to send them a private message. Unlike calling or chat this is not live support so may be a few days before you have a response, just like if you were to mail in old fashion written correspondence. But it is another option.

Though AT&T and Directv post in the forums occasionally, the forum itself is for customers discussing with each other. Sometimes we can help, but if you need access to your account or an official response, than you must contact Directv or AT&T by the above methods.

Re: Genie 2 DVR – Things To Know From AT&T

I currently have the HR44-500 Genie, and while it has it's issues (dropping sound)but I keep it because I have recorded shows that are no longer available and don't want to lose them. I do not want to upgrade to the Genie HS17/100, heard nothing but problems with it and the Mini's.  What I want to know is, if I needed another Genie will the HR 44's still be available?  I have 2 HD DVR receivers and do not want to swap them for Mini's either.

HR44 and HR54 Genie DVRs are still available.

If you end up warranty replacing your Genie, it would be replaced with a HR44 or HR54 (depending on what is next in stock). They are still available, but you can only have 1 Genie on the account. You have the right thinking, HDDVRs are better than Mini Genie Clients because of their own tuners, independent processing, recording space, all for no difference in monthly cost. I have a Genie and 2 HDDVRs and will not swap a HDDVR for a Client just to gain a couple 4K channels by losing all that capability.

Re: Genie 2 DVR – Things To Know From AT&T

Thank you Juniper for honest info !  It's nice when someone admits newer isn't necessarily better!  Being a senior, I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke don't fix it"!   I have the protection plan and have had very good service from the service techs that come out.  They have been good about giving me honest advice and I appreciate that too!  So I'll keep my current set up and swap rooms with my Genie and one of my HD DVR's to avoid the horrific new Genie GUI....it's going in the room we hardly use... so I can use the old menus in my room... gotta love whole house!

Re: Genie 2 DVR – Things To Know From AT&T

We got our Genie 2 DVR last December 2017, we now refer to it as the dark tower !!! our screens freeze for seconds at a time, screen freezes and you have to change channel to unfreeze, the sound is skipping and you have to pause it and hit play for it play right, jumping between watching tv and looking at the guide the video and sound will freeze, connecting to server all the time, and on and on and on.  Calls to support all are known issues and there is NO known fixes at this time. I think it is time for Direct TV Technical to post a tread with what the problem is, software, hardware, or both and what they are doing to correct the problems with a time line.  All of our mini’s updated the other day and I was all excited !!! Will this fix some or all the issues ??? Ah NO !!! NONE !!! ZERO !!! What the did the update do ??? Put up a technical forum informing us what the is going on !!!  All I am asking is to be informed !!!

Re: Genie 2 DVR – Things To Know From AT&T

I had the Genie 2 installed a few months ago, but I was wondering if it's possible to switch back to the HR54. The Genie 2 is horrible. I have a Control4 system, and I had to change from IP control to IR control for every client on my system and install IR repeaters for every client  Now, one of my clients has stopped working using the IR control. I tried to use the DIRECTV remote app for my Android phone, but it doesn't work with the new Genie 2 system since none of the clients have the ability for IP control. When opening the app, it can't find any receivers on my network. After a while, it'll pick up the IP address for the Genie 2, which is useless since it doesn't even connect to a TV.

@rolldog

It is possible to go to a regular Genie. The HR54 is only guaranteed if you do a 4K upgrade, or already have a 4K setup with the Genie-2, otherwise you 'might' get a HR44 depending on stock (at least the HR34 is no longer available as there were huge improvements in the HR44/HR54).

Since it has only been a few months a free upgrade would not be expected. A Genie would be $299 one-time lease cost. If you have more than 3 Clients, then you will either not be able to use them all at the same time (can pair with up to 8, but only 3 at max can be used at same time per shared tuners), or look into replacing with HDDVR ($199) or HD non-DVR ($99). Regular Genie has the benefit of working with other boxes so you don't have every TV reliant on one to work, plus it can reach more capability than the Genie-2 can (Genie and 2 HDDVRs is 9 tuners, but Genie-2 cannot exceed 7 as forbids anything not a Client from being on the account).

Re: Genie 2 DVR – Things To Know From AT&T

Can the Genie 2 record on a tuner that is being watched? I upgraded from 4 stand alone HD-DVRs to a Genie 1 a few months ago (before 2 came out) just to find out it would not record from a tuner in use so I was missing recordings even though I was watching the same program at the same time. This happened a number of times over the first week before I sent that Genie back and put my HD-DVRs back in place. It was useless to me if it would not record what I had it set to.

Re: Genie 2 DVR – Things To Know From AT&T

@Solag1

Ouch you have downgraded pretty heavily.

4 HDDVRs is 8 tuners and 2TB recording space. (HDDVRs have 500GB each since HR22).

Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) and 3 HDDVRs is 11 tuners and 2.5TB total space.

Genie-2 has 7 tuners and 2TB recording space and forbids HDDVRs being on the account. So can never go above 7 tuners, that is the maximum.

The Genie does allow you to record on tuners you are watching. It just ends up with conflicts if you have Clients as they are extensions of it using the same tuners. Some households starting with a Genie and Mini Genie Clients is fine and can decide on replacing Clients with HDDVRs later as needed. Going from an HDDVR to a Client is a downgrade because losing tuners and recording space.
