Re: GENIE 2 QUESTION (HS-17-XXX)

Internet is not required to upgrade to Genie 2, just that without internet, you will not be able to use the functions such as on demand content. You can still make the upgrade, as a friendly reminder, the Genie 2 is not connected to the TV.

Re: GENIE 2 QUESTION (HS-17-XXX)

Sure DTV doesn't need internet to work but you will not be able to use the remote to order PPV.

Re: GENIE 2 QUESTION (HS-17-XXX)

You don't need internet at all for DirecTV as it is service from satellite. Internet is only for optional On Demand features.

However, do NOT get the Genie-2 (HS17). I cannot stress this enough, it is still too buggy a system and by design it is a downgrade to regular Genies because it is built to forbid other HDDVRs on the account. Please post your model numbers here and other customers can give guidance on more reliable upgrade options.
