771 signal loss (repeatedly)

My receiver has been implying this "771 signal loss" code on all the basic channels. It's really inconvenient to see this signal loss alert blocking half of the television screen all the time. I've called technical services and they're unable to provide me services due to my work schedule. Charter Cable services was always able to meet me after work hours (5pm-8pm) to solve any field problems. My plan is to call everytime I see this 771 signal loss error to obtain a temporary fix. Wish I never left Chapter cable services.

Re: 771 signal loss (repeatedly)

99% of these problems are caused by dish misalignment. Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Re: 771 signal loss (repeatedly)

You can't get a "temporary fix" for this. It's telling you there is a problem with the signal coming from the dish to the receiver. If you respond to litzdog's post he can almost certainly tell you where the problem is. Otherwise you will have to schedule a service visit.

Re: 771 signal loss (repeatedly)

@Wetsuit,

The signals from your HD satellites are way too low.  Most like your dish needs realignment.  Call DirecTV .... 1 800 531 5000

Re: 771 signal loss (repeatedly)

you can't fix this yourself, unless you understand how to align a dish. You need a service visit, free if  you have protection plan $100 otherwise.

What exactly has been tried?

Sounds like a simple service visit to fix your dish is all that's needed.  No different with Dish Network, either.

You need a smarter tech. 771 errors have absolutely nothing to do with your list or amount of recordings. Something is preventing solid satellite reception.  Use the table previously posted and post back with your satellite signal readings. My guess is that your dish needs aligning. Also, what are your DVR/Receiver model numbers?

Re: 771 signal loss (repeatedly)

Hello - When I test my signal strength of the satellites, some are lower than 50% on all tuners. Could this be the reason why I’m getting the 771 error code?

Re: 771 signal loss (repeatedly)

Depends on which sats as local channel are on spot beams aimed at different cities so can be 0 or higher but in most cases if a majority are around 50 then yes.

Could be. Post back your signal readings using the template from the above posts.
