Destruction done to my home and mislead about services and contract

A representative came to my home promised many things and lied about contract. After 1st day so unsatified tried to reach rep to which no reply was ever given. I have been back and forth with different reps telling different things and now I am stuck with a bill AND cancelation fee when I was trying to cancel from first day of service. Everyone I have spokeno to has forwarded me to someone else. Just spoke to cancelation department and even though I informed them that the service tech (whom bybthe way doesnt work for dish or at&t but rather was subcontracted) never informed me that when signing his pad for the install I was signing a 2 year contract is still telling me I am responsible for cancellation fee. I plan to blog and tell everyone I can possibly reach about how horrible an crooked I was treated. Direct TV is run on a gimmick to lock you in for a 2 year contract without verbally disclosing the fine print. I would love to talk to someone who is professional and understanding to my specific case.

Re: Destruction done to my home and mislead about services and contract

An agent comming to the home, the door to door salesman, is a 3rd party retailer. They contract to sell products and services from other companies, sometime they can sell both Directv and Dish even though they are competitors. Directv has no local agents of their own, allthough now that they are part of AT&T the retail stores are supposed to be able to setup new service but I wouldn't reccomend as even now they seem to be still catching up on the Directv information.

Sounds like you had a misquote/miscommunication with the agent. Did you read your order confirmation that was sent you with the breakdown of your exact order? If there were any issues upon install you had the right to refuse start of service. Directv's new customer offers, like most companies, come with a 24 month agreement. Yes that is supposed to be disclosed by the sales agent, but it is also listed in the order confirmation, the advertisements have it listed, and the handheld has it too, all there for you to read. You have the 1st day to cancel before the agreement is secured to make sure the service is what you want. After that you are responsible for the early cancelation fee which is valued at $20 for each month remaining on your agreement (23 months would be an ECF of $460).

One thing you can try the next time you speak with Directv. Ask for the dealer contact phone number from you install order that is responsible for the retail agent that you ordered service through. This way you can lodge your grievance directly to the 3rd party company you were working with and anything they might be willing to do work with you on the situation. Any changes, or cancelation of service, has to be done with Directv directly.
