Home automation is slowly becoming the norm. Knowing that, we have decided to dive in and give our members a more effortless experience when using the DIRECTV satellite product. Did you lose your remote, or did the batteries run out? No problem. You can use your Amazon Alexa enabled device such as the Echo, Dot, or Tap to do things liked:
If you have a compatible Amazon device and DIRECTV satellite service with an Internet-connected Genie device, you are moments from setting up this amazing feature!
Access your Alexa account
Sign in to the Alexa portal or download the Alexa app.
You can get the app on Android (version 4.4 or higher), iOS (version 8.0 and higher), and Fire OS (version 2.0 or higher). Find it in Google Play, the Apple app store, or the Amazon app store.
Set up the Alexa skill for DIRECTV
Heads up: You can use more than 1 Alexa device to control a single TV (i.e., a single DIRECTV device). But you can’t use 1 Alexa device to control multiple TVs (i.e., a multiple DIRECTV devices). For additional detail read our support article, Set up the DIRECTV Alexa skill.

Yea sounds like another thing AT&T releases but doesn't support or update. I have also noticed that they haven't updated their C41W's in like 4 or 5 months, even though they still have issues with them locking up ect…. Guess they like being behind their competitors.

Do any of the functions work when you try to connect HS17 by itself?

What do you mean does any of the functions work when connected to the HS17 by itself? If you are talking about selecting the HS17 in the Skills app, then no, I can't select on any of them. They are all greyed out.

I am sure you did this already but want to make sure. Have you attempted to restart all the receivers and your modem? Also do you have the latest OS for your Alexa device?

Yes I have reset everything multiple times... Also I am sure the Alexa Device has the latest OS on it. I do have a few more questions to ask about the names, don't know if this matter's or not. On the Geni Mini's C41W's, I have gone in the setup on them and changed their client location names to more friendly names. I have noticed on the Alexa App for the Directv Skills app, it lists them all as Genie Mini 7D002C: MAC Address for the C41W and Genie HS17-100: FAMILY RM (which accrouding to the system itself it's still set to just: server).
Now the other thing is that I was also put on the New Accounts linking program. So for instance if I log into the Directv site, it transfers me over the myAT&T page. There I can select Directv and then Manage my Plan, then on that page it shows me my Equipment, which again never put in any of these names, but this is what it lists:
Notice the last one doesn't even have a name, but 2 of them say FAMILY RM and 2 of them say BEDROOM. Also don't know why it says Not connected to Internet when they are and clicking the Reconnect takes me to Welcome to AT&T support page....
If we need to setup a call, can you IM me a number to contact you at?

I have the skill linked correctly, but there is a significant lag to all requests that take place after an initial request. If I haven’t ask Alexa to do anything with directv for a while, my next request will happen immediately. For example, if I tell Alexa to “tune to channel 4”, the channel will change right away. All subsequent requests take about 45 seconds to accomplish.
My software is up-to-date on all devices, I’ve cycled power to everything, and disabled and enabled the Directv skill. The issue remains.

What's the command to turn on the DirecTV wireless mini Genie client? I can get Alexa to FF, rewind, pause, resume, etc. But can't get her to turn it on.

"Alexa, turn on the TV" should work, to power on and off the supported DirecTV (Genie) client device, and it does not, at least for alot of people here in the forum.
Being that other functions work, like "tune to HGTV" or fast forward. What does not work is power on or off, and this command comes from the fireTV cube in an IR signal. Other commands like "tune to HGTV" or "fast forward" come from the hdmi cables connected to your TV, FireTV Cube, and Genie. So to me, this must be a signalling issue.
My personal suspicion (if this is not a firmware issue) is that it could stem from how your DirecTV remote is setup, RF or IR. Because when you setup your DirecTV remote, your also programming your DirecTV client (Genie) and setting which type of signal to utilize, RF or IR.
I am going to do some experimenting with my remote and see if its in IR mode. I will get back with any findings here soonest.
From Amazon: Check if the device control features of Fire TV Cube are compatible;
IR technology is the same technology used by many remote controls. Fire TV Cube contains multidimensional IR emitters, so now Alexa can control most TVs, sound bars, A/V receivers, and cable and satellite boxes.

Today did some testing and confirmed DirecTV remote is setup as using IR. power on or off does not work.
I also tried every possible setting within FireTV Cube settings relating to power and hdmi properties, power on or off does not work on any of the three FireTV Cube TV's with attached compatible Genie receivers in my home.
Next test I will go thru new equipment set up ONE more time
If you see no additional posts from me, then that didnt work either.

This app does not work. I have been on the phone with Amazon for hours trying to fix it. They contacted Direct tv with me on the phone. Both the Amazon representative and myself were amused by the Direct tv representatives lack of knowledge regarding this. It was laughable and we did laugh. I urged Amazon to take down the app until Direct tv gets its act together.

I have had my new Amazon Echo since Saturday 7/6/19 and have already spend at least 12 hours trying to connect the Echo Plus 2nd generation to my Direct TV Genie. I have contacted both Amazon and AT&T Direct TV's 2nd level help desk. Below are all of the actions I have attempted to rectify the connectivity issue; reset all Direct TV client's / minis and Genie tower, installed and removed Alexa Android application twice. Installed and deleted mini's and tower from Alexa devices on three occasions. Linked and unlinked Genie tower and minis on 3 occasions from Alexa / Direct TV skills. Port forwarded Genie TCP / UDP addresses on my NetGear Night Hawk router. Enabled the Direct TV whole-home external devices in the Genie settings mode. Changed and ensured the wireless network speed for my LG TV / Direct TV Genie / Alexa Echo 2 gen are all connected to 2.4 ghz. And finally, reset the Amazon Echo back to the original factory setting's.
As of today, I have relinked the Echo skills for my front door quick-set lock, wireless lamps, ADT pulse, Ring doorbell, SiriusXM and Bose Sound Link Bluetooth speaker. Each of these devices were linked / setup in minutes. I have been a 30 year AT&T loyal wireless customer and a 12 year client of Direct TV. I deal with 3rd party VAR's (Value Added Resellers) for the past 35 years and have never experience anything like this.
In the U.S., our Tech corporations are releasing new products every day. However to save expenses, they are using the general public for the R&D technical issue resolutions. I hope in the future, the general public STOPS purchasing new products to send a loud message to these corporations. This practice of producing and selling hardware /software without full testing is unethical.
By the way, my Amazon Echo 2nd generation cannot link with the AT&T Direct TV Genie system.
