Lower my bill

So I am 3 mos into the 2nd year of the 24 month agreement and the bill basically doubled in month 13.  Since I really only watch 3 channels regularly; NBC, FoodNetwork and NESN for Red Sox baseball, what is the best option for reducing my bill?  At this point, the cancellation fee will be less than another month's bill, so why would I continue to pay so much for what isn't being used?

Re: Lower my bill

only you can lower your bill by cutting out any extra programming and cutting back on the amount of boxes in the home, it should come as no surprise to you that your discounts were ending its on each bill 12 of 12, 11 of 12, 10 of 12 and so on .its a promotional price for 12 months. not sure how much your bill is but the ETF is 20 dollars per month for each month not honored 12X20 =240.00

Re: Lower my bill

I called DirecTv about my bill. I could not afford it any longer. The person I talked to, Sam. was very helpful I thought. We dropped all the movie packages off. He said my bill would be $135 and change. I opted to add that new $4.99 move channel since it would not add but that amount to my bill. The man said that if I agreed to a 24 month contract that I would be assured of having this same bill every month from now on. I was very pleased with this. I could afford this so of course I agreed to the 24 month.. I got the bill in today...guess what...it will be $165. I thought I would call and they would fix this. I did but they did not. I told them that since they had broken what was agreed on that I did not have any contract with them...yeah right. The supervisor I was talking to said she could not help me but she was going to put me through to customer relations. Ok..it rang twice. I waited over 20 minutes. No one ever came on the line. I have looked all over this site to find out how to see if she cancelled that 24 month contract but can find nothing but this. She actually said that she could  not help what Sam had said to me. How can that be..he works for them doesn't he? I am really frustrated. If I can not pay the bill I have to cancel it. We have had DirecTv for almost 40 years. 20 in Ky and the rest here. I just don't know what to do. I could call again but what good would that do? We are both in our 70's. My husband is a veteran and all he can do really is watch TV. I hate to shut it off but If  I have to choose between food, medications or gas, verses TV. I just do not know what to do.

Thanks for listening anyway.

Re: Lower my bill

I would look into streaming services if I were you, especially since you only watch a few channels, and assuming you have internet service. I think YouTube TV is one of the only ones that carries NESN. They also have Food Network and local channels. $50 a month. If DirecTV is not able to give you any more discounts, YouTube TV might be a great option for you. With DirecTV unfortunately if you want NESN you also have to deal with their extra fees
