The LCC is not yet available, other than a few cities that have lost a local channel due to contract negotiations. And it's not clear if the LCC will ever be available broadly. In the mean time, use an off-air antenna with your TV's tuner.

Re: Local Channel Connectors

Let me get this right - DirecTV has added this feature/capability to it's HR44 & HR54 receivers, BUT the actual LCC Kit is NOT yet available?  I have a HR44 and all of a sudden I'm getting like 4, 5, maybe 6 additional local channels showing up on my on-screen guide, but when I click on one of these new local channels all I get is an error message something to the affect that no Local Channel Connector Hardware can be found, check your antenna and/or connections.  I mean, when is the Kit going to be available and how much is it going to cost?

Re: Local Channel Connectors

Well, I have subsequently obtained some info from DirecTV; and as with
pretty much everything from DirecTV/AT&T, the info I was told is very
confusing -as in - makes NO sense at all. Apparently the LCC kits are
currently available, but just because certain local channels are now showing
up out of the blue on your receiver on-screen guide and the info displayed
when selecting one of those channels refers to the need for local channel
connector hardware, you may not be "AUTHORIZED" to receive a LCC kit because
of your location! The customer service rep I was talking to was not really
making much sense, but apparently this is the case with my situation -
because of my location I am NOT authorized to have a kit so that I can view
those particular local channels thru my DirecTV receiver/hardware. The
person could not even explain, why in this case those particular local
channels are now all of a sudden showing up on my on-screen guide if I am
NOT authorized. Again TYPICAL DIRECTV/AT&T!

Re: Local Channel Connectors

Local Channel Connector (LCC) is still in testing, not yet available for national launch.

DirecTV is making an early exception to provide the LCC to those who live in an area affected by local channel negotiations. This does change the LCC is not officially out of testing. Just some early access to help combat those local negotiations. Check https://tvpromise.att.com/ to see if you are affected by any negotiations, if so call DirecTV to see about getting one, otherwise you will have to wait like the rest of us.

When national launch will be and how much the LCC will cost are still unknown at this point.

The extra local channels you are seeing in the guide are accidental.

Re: Local Channel Connectors

Thanks for the clarification. Its a shame DirecTV/AT&T cannot hire
intelligent/knowledgeable customer service reps. If it weren't for this
chat group a person would not be able to get any meaningful info regarding
DirecTV services at all.

Again, thanks!

Agents need more training time and to use their resources to look up correct information. Agents from the AT&T side having to learn all the ins and outs of a service that doesn't work the same (mechanically or by policy) is the biggest weakness. Since this forum does have some long experienced customers (such as myself), these days we have become more of a necessity to help each other out.

Once the LCC is out of testing and available to all, it has the potential to be quite the blow to all those locals that keep trying to raise costs. I wonder if it is truly because of testing, or they are either making sure the channel database (that the old AM21 also uses) is ready from updates or catching up on building enough LCCs to go around.

Re: Local Channel Connectors

Not working on the HS17 may also be part of the problem.

Re: Local Channel Connectors

Not working on the HS17 is a good point. Especially with how hard agents have been pushing it.

Compatibility with LCC and HDDVRs would make that a system to consider (provided bugs squashed). But for now, no compatibility with LCC give the Genie-2 another nail.

Re: Local Channel Connectors

Well, more very strange info from DirecTV/AT&T on this topic. I just found
out today my local CBS channel feed has been pulled from DirecTV by Nexstar.
This was not the case (at least to my knowledge) when I first contacted
DirecTV about getting a LCC kit several days ago. So I just called again to
see about an LCC kit. Now the person I talked to this time says they are
getting so many calls from customers in the same situation they are no
longer furnishing the kits while negotiations are underway with the channel
owners (as best as I could interpret what the person was saying). The
person didn't come right out and say it, but if my interpretation is
correct, that would lead me to believe they just do not have enough kits to
go around. This I guess would also make sense if the kit is still in
development/testing stage. Anyway, I am not going to worry about it anymore
- I still don't think DirecTV/AT&T knows if it is coming or going (at least
when it comes to the customer service reps).

@srtowens

Nexstar is causing a lot of complaints here in the forum, so is affecting a lot of people. So it would make sense there are not enough LCCs to go around. I was hoping that testing itself was at the end and they were just offering early access to it while building up enough inventory to do a proper national launch. So we shall see what happens in the foreseeable future.
