blackberry updates to Operating System

I have a Blackberry Classic and my phone continually says I have the currently release 10.3.2.556; but I see on this blog that I am way behind and cannot pull down the latest update of 10.3.3.1359 which some say was released on 12/2 this year.    What's the holdup and why can't I get these to auto update.    I have my phone set up to do so.

Because AT&T gave up on BlackBerry and couldn't be bothered anymore.

They think it's okay to keep their customers on a 2 year old build with bugs and security issues that have long been fixed with newer builds rather than just let their phones have direct access to the BlackBerry OS distribution servers that the rest of the world has enjoyed all this time.

I could give you links to the current official BlackBerry 10.3.3 autoloaders, but I'd be edited - even though they are directly from BlackBerry's own support page.

AT&T will come in here and say they want to make sure "we" won't have problems.  Well, I've been running builds beyond the last "AT&T Official" version for the past two years.  I've had no problems.  Currently running 10.3.3.1435 (OS 10.3.3.2163).

Also, since the AT&T Official 10.3.2.556 (OS 10.3.2.858) was released, the PTCRB (the certification body for CTIA-The Wireless Association for all of North American GMS carriers) have officially certified the following BB10 OS builds...

CER-48927-001 Rev 5 (RFF91LW)OS 10.3.3.441, Radio 10.3.3.442, Software Release Version: 10.3.3.293
CER-48927-001 Rev 5 (RFF91LW)OS 10.3.2.2876, Radio 10.3.2.2877, Software Release Version: 10.3.2.2836
CER-48927-001 Rev 5 (RFF91LW)OS 10.3.2.2789, Radio 10.3.2.2790, Software Release Version: 10.3.2.2514
CER-48927-001 Rev 5 (RFF91LW)OS 10.3.2.2639, Radio 10.3.2.2640 (SR 10.3.2.2474)
CER-48927-001 Rev 5 (RFF91LW)OS Version: 10.3.2.2339, Radio Verison: 10.3.2.2340, Software Release Version: 10.3.2.2226
CER-48927-001 Rev 5 (RFF91LW)OS Version: 10.3.2.2252, Radio Verison: 10.3.2.2253, Software Release Version: 10.3.2.2168

And I've had all of those on my Z10 in the past 2 years except for 10.3.3.441.  Only Because BB never actually released that particular build.  And those are the ones specifically for the AT&T sub-model (RFF91LW).  The other sub-model (RFK121LW) of the STL100-3 does have a more current 10.3.3 build, but still not what's out now.

Hello @shihtzusmom!

Getting the latest update for your BlackBerry is very important, and I will be more than happy to help with this!

I apologize about the wait as we are currently working on the latest update, and testing it to make sure there are no issues upon release.  We do appreciate your patience with us while we work to get this out as soon as possible!

Another way you can get software updates for your phone from BlackBerry would be here. Once you have downloaded BlackBerry links to your computer, you will want to hook the phone via USB cord to the computer and then in the phone search for updates.

Thank you for reaching out to our Community Forums! If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.  Have a fantastic day!

Katherine,  As has been pointed out to you before, AT&T has NOT been releasing any tested updates in a very long time...this despite many requests from customers here and elsewhere.  You need to quit saying that AT&T is testing an update so it will be released.

Thanks!

I thought I read something about ATT and BB allowing updated direct from BB, as posted by Katherine and @joeldf.

Not for BB10 phones, no.

AT&T should allow their branded BB10 phones to get updates direct from BlackBerry since AT&T no longer sells them anymore.

You can find autoloaders for the BB10 phone and update it yourself to the OS released by BlackBerry just last month, but that has nothing to do with AT&T.  I'd include links, but AT&T will edit it out as "inappropriate" even though they are direct links to BlackBerry's own support site.

What has been done was for the AT&T branded Priv.  BlackBerry's Android phone.  A whole mess of extra AT&T stock was sold to third parties all over the world (known as "the great AT&T dump") and all those people who snapped up cheap ($300) Privs suddenly found themselves with a phone that couldn't get the monthly security updates because none of them were actually on the AT&T network.  They were all unlocked after-the-fact to be usable on other networks, but the fact that they were still "branded" meant that it would only get updates that AT&T released while only on the AT&T network.

BlackBerry and AT&T came to a workaround.  They released a utility that could be used to basically "un-brand" the Priv internally and allowed it direct access to the BB servers for OS distribution.

But, again, that was only for the Priv, and only the SIM unlocked Priv.
