BlackBerry Curve 8300: Package Version: 4.2.2.186 VS Package Version: 4.2.2.301

I have:

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.186 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.2.186
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.2.2.89
  • Software Platform: 2.4.0.39
  • File name: 8300EFIGS_Dutch_PBr4.2.2_rel186_PL2.4.0.39_A4.2.2.89_AT&T.exe
  • File size: 71.98MB

Note: Once installed, v .2.2.89 (Platform 2.4.0.39) will be displayed under Settings > Options > About on the handheld.

How do I get:

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.301 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.2.301
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.2.2.166
  • Software Platform: 2.4.0.73
  • File name: 8300M_PBr4.2.2_rel301_PL2.4.0.73_A4.2.2.166_AT&T.exe
  • File size: 78.1MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Why don't I have the lastet version installed on my device and how can I get it the lastest version? And will it erase anything that I have if I update it? (address book, pics, applications; myspace, jivetalk)??

To get it, go here, select your model from the pulldown list and download it. You should also download Desktop Manager 4.6 if you don't already have it. Install both, Desktop Manager first, then the OS on your computer, connect your phone and follow the prompts to upgrade. The upgrade will completely wipe your phone, but there's an option to backup and restore it during the upgrade process.

Whatever you do, DON'T disconnect your phone until you see the message that the process is finished. It takes up to an hour to upgrade, so be patient. Disconnecting your phone too soon can render it unusable, and it can be difficult to get it back.
