unknown message not found

iPhone 8+ iOS 11.4.1 I have received two of the Unknown Message Not Found text.  Worried I am missing something important about work. Sometimes have a bad signal when in a certain room of my house, but wasn't in there when I got the text.

What's going on, @BeppyB!

The issue is generally caused by iMessage and Facetime. We recommend disabling both features then powercycling your device by turning it off then on again before enabling activity on both apps.

To disable iMessage and Facetime:

Open Settings > select Messages > deactivate iMessage by swiping the slider to Off. Navigate back to Settings > select Facetime > slide the slider to Off to disable Facetime.

We hope this information helps! Let us know how this worked.

This is not an iMessage or Facetime issue, as it's started happening to me and I'm on Android (S7).

I have...

Both soft and hard reset.

Cleared messaging cache.

Disabled messaging, cleared phone cache, rebooted.

Still persists.

The troubleshooting tool from ATT  gave me the magnificent solution to "turn off messaging."

Going through the forums, I see at least a dozen threads from this year with the same issue.

I'm having the same issues.  I don't have facetime or imessage.  I have an android and I just did a chat with AT&T tech, he did a reset of my network, but that didn't work either.  I have cleared cache, soft start, hard start, erased apps that are old or unused.  Still happening.

Factory restart is not a solution.

Mine is very random.  It isn't every message, but it seems to be happening more and more. I know they are from people on my contacts that it is happening with.  I have to ask them to resend and hope I get it.  Sometimes I do, sometime not.

I have heard that this is an issue often for Group Text (MMS) between iPhone and Android users. I have been getting these messages from an 8 person group text chat and only get this randomly from iPhone users. It is very annoying because sometimes it allows me to tap to download and the message will come through, but 80% of the time it does not and shows up as "Unknown Sender: Message not found"

It seems like ATT must be aware of this if it is so common and suggest some fixes....

This is happening to me now. Over a hundred unknown messages from a group chat I've been in for a few years now.

What has worked for me is to delete the conversation for the ones I text with the most and that has seem to fix the problem.
