To transfer all your data from old iPhone to new iPhone, do a backup of the old phone to iCloud or a computer with iTunes, then use that backup to restore to the new iPhone. To activate cellular service on the new iPhone, either move the SIM card from the old iPhone or activate the SIM card that came with the new iPhone, if it came with a SIM card.

Hello @criminger

Thanks for the post.

We can help with activation, and setup. Make sure your SIM card is inserted in you iPhone and your device is on then place a test call or browse the web without using Wi-Fi.

If you can't make calls or surf the web, activate your device online at https://soc.att.com/2BI7AZ1.

Next, you will want to transfer your info from you old iPhone to your new one with our AT&T Mobile Transfer app, which is preloaded, or available for download via the App Store.

Connect your old phone and new phone to your Wi-Fi network. Then open up the AT&T Mobile Transfer app.

  • On your old phone: "From this phone" will pop up on the screen. Select it and foll the steps until you see a barcode code. You'll need it to make the transfer.
  • On your new phone: "To this phone" shows up on your screen, select it and follow the steps until you see a barcode reader.

Scan the code on your old phone with the code reader on your new phone. This links both devices. Now follow the steps to transfer your info and you're done!

Please follow these simple steps to activate, and set up your new device, then post back with your success.

@criminger I highly advise you ignore ATTCares suggestion to use the ATT mobile transfer app. We have heard many reports of that app failing with iPhones and since Apple provides a well tested method to transfer data, there is no reason to use ATT’s app.

Do I use my old sim card or the new sim card that came with the new phone?

@kcr630 Your choice but it’s usually best to use the new sim that came with the new phone.

Hello kcr630, we would be glad to help you activate your new device!

Use the SIM card you received. If you got a new device, you might need to insert the SIM card. Need help? If you’re upgrading your phone or transferring your number. You’re a few clicks away from completing your activation. Let’s get it activated.

Let us know if this helps you out.
