I have an iPhone 6 that is not on contract anymore and is an att phone. I need the phone unlocked and i have unlocked many iPhones previously.  When the imei is entered on the unlock page (i checked it 6 times) it says it is not recognized by att.  I would like this to be resolved so i can get this iPhone unlocked please.  Thank you.

Hello @Lock4s,

Welcome to the Community Forums.  I happy to hear you were able to get your device unlocked! I would be happy to go over the process of unlocking.

To start with, it may take 24-48 hours for the approval to be recognized by Apple.  Please connect the phone to iTunes via a computer, backup the device, completely erase the device and restore from iTunes.  Once successful you will receive “Congratulations your phone is unlocked”.  You will then be able to use another SIM in the phone.

If you continue to have issues please let us know by replying in this thread.  I hope you have a great rest of your day!

Hello! I was an Austrian exchange student in Texas and I bought my first iPhone during my stay and I was very excited and happy with it.. at&t was my phone carrier at that time and before I bought the phone I made sure that it will work in Austria too. But as soon as I came home I got very disappointed: I was not able to unlock the phone online because every time I type in my information it says the phone is unlocked to another at&t account.. I can't think of a reason why I can't fix that problem and I would be very glad to know how to unlock my phone:( please help! thank you 🙂

Did someone help you with the problem or did you find a solution? I have the same phone and the exact same problem 😞

No one could fix the problem. The previous owner of the phone called and
they continued to tell me to do the same thing I had done 12 times before.

I bought an iPhone 5s from Best Buy when I was in the USA.  I asked for an unlocked phone and the employee assured me it was unlocked.  I also bought an ATT GOPHONE kit to use for the 5 months I was in the USA. On my return to Botswana where I live, I cancelled the ATT account.  A few weeks later I tried to get set up to use the phone here, but ATT will not unlock it.  I do not even know how to contact ATT.  I can prove my residence in Botswana.

I purchased a phone from another customer at AT&T store.. I had the AT&T representative verify the phone was paid off and not under contract.. I am a current AT&T customer but use a different SIM when I am out of the country 4 months out of the year.. The sim unlock request was not able to process due to the phone status: " not a consumer device ". I called 611 and talked to support and they denied my request because I am not the original owner.. I've been a customer of AT&T since 1999.. I did a lot of research and was told by a rep that once the phone is paid off and not under contract it will be unlocked.

Call Apple to verify it is locked to ATT.

Did you request as a customer?   Resold iPhones are often still linked to the original account.  This means denial usually come with "...in use on another customers account".  "Not a consumer device" is odd unless the phone was never used on ATT.

I was at the AT&T store and we are both customers. AT&T rep verified the phone was paid off and free of contract.. the guy bought another phone. He was going to trade this one in so I bought it instead of AT&T giving him a low trade-in.. the phone is free and clear. I thought it was strange that I got Denied "We're unable to process this request because it is not a consumer device."
Request # CUL924598480378

I called 611 and they said that the original owner has to request a unlock. Which is ridiculous. The phone is paid off. It should be unlocked automatically.
