iPhone 7 Voice Mail Issues

Hi. I'm on a iPhone7 128GB on OS v10.1.1. My voicemail does some odd things. First, sometimes I don't get notifications about a new voicemail for up 20 minutes. Sometimes it comes right away. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes. Sometimes it takes up 20 minutes. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm on wifi or not. It's very inconsistent. Second, when I do look at my voicemail list and I select a messgae to listen to, he mesage will open and then immediately close. It will do this sometimes up to 5 times until it finally stays open and let's me listen to the messgae. Occasionaly, it will close while the message is playing back.

These issues are inconsistent. Sometimes it works 100% fine. But most of the time, I will experience one of or both of these issues.

Anyone else? Shy of bringing it into either an Apple store (which I dread having to do) or taking it to an ATT store, would love a suggestion on how to fix this.

Thanks!

Hello @nlabran!

Thank you for joining us here in Community Forums! I will be happy to share some suggestions to resolve your voicemail issue.

Do you use visual (view and read) voicemail, or basic (call and listen) voicemail? With Wi-Fi off, do you also have Cellular Data enabled in your Settings? To check both of those settings, you can check out our Device How To page. Be sure to select your make and model.

Most of the time, the issue is in the phone settings. If you check out our Troubleshoot page online, it will guide you through more advanced steps to fix the issue. \

Let us know how it works out for you. Have a great rest of your week!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am using visual voicemail. The problem happens when I use either wifi or cellular data. I am on wifi much more than cellular. I tried to use your links to check my settings and I still couldn't find them. The links just took me in circles. I dont really know what settings I'm actually looking for. Am I looking for the cellular data setting? I know where that is. Should that be turned on or off? Will that make a difference? Like I said, the issue happens on both wifi and cellular data and it doesn't happen 100% of the time.

Hello, @nlabran!

Thank you for contacting us again as well as for trying to use the Troubleshoot tool to resolve your issue!

To correct the intermittent problem, I would recommend resetting your network settings in the phone. You can complete these steps by going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Please be aware, doing the network reset will require you to input any saved Wi-Fi passwords again.

Please let me know if this works for you!

Ok, I'll try that. This isn't going to completely reset my phone is it? Will I lose any data? I will back up my phone as a precaution, but am I going to have to do a full restore after this?

Thank you!

Hello @nlabran!

Great question! When you reset your network settings, you will not lose any data whatsoever. The WI-FI passwords will only be erased, since the network is going to be reset.

You can definitely back up your phone as a precaution. I always recommend backing up your phone regularly just in case!

In regards to your data question earlier, yes the Cellular Data in Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data, it should be enabled.

Let me know how it goes, have a good weekend!

My problem still exists. even after resetting the network settings. Any other suggestions? Btw, I have since updated to OS 10.2. No change in this issue.

I started this thread almost 2 months ago. My problem still exists and @ATTMobilityCare has not replied to my issue beyond the inital, "Thank you, we'll look into it" reply. Is anyone working on this at all?

Thanks!
