iPad and AT&T WiFi

I am thinking about buying an iPad but I am trying to decide whether I want to buy the iPad + WiFi or the iPad + WiFi + 3G. I am a student and I don't really go out of town often enough to need 3G but when I do travel I travel all over the country. Also because I'm a student, if I don't have to spend the extra money on the 3G and monthly service I'd prefer not to.

So, my question is if I already have AT&T do I have free access to AT&T WiFi Hotspots with the iPad without 3G?

How is that better off? With the 3G version you have data and functionality when you leave the WiFi zone. With the WiFi only version, you're done once you go out of range.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad I got the 3G WiFi iPad.

Will the 3G work in Europe. I also have wifi, but some rates are steep

That depends on that country's frequncies that support 3G. Also consider that the iPad may be locked to AT&T leading to higher roaming rates.

Your standard AT&T plan won't work in Europe. The iPad is unlocked, so you can conceivably find a local carrier wherever you want to go.
